Lucked onto an original Model 52 Winchester today. Old original style with barrel band, ladder rear sight, aperture front. Only problem is that it was restocked. Bore bright and perfect, action good, price was completely fine considering the non-original stock.
Now to find original type target bases and a decent target scope. Will try it out this afternoon with several kinds of match ammo and the irons, despite my seventy-six year old eyes. Aperture front and rear and all I have to see is the bull.
Excitement after a long dull Rona shutdown.
This one is a 1926. My first was a 1925 and has a 6X Lyman target scope from that era. Shot it in the smallbore league at Peoria Armory. Against $1500 Anschutzs and others. About 1976

Ooooo!!!! Need pics please!
Love old '52s, especially the Sporters.

Ahh the memories! The first year I shot 4 position indoor small bore I started with my Winchester Model 75 with Lyman peep sights, stock trigger. I was a poor college kid and that’s what I had. I shot the first half dozen matches scoring in the 360’s and that established my handicap.

Denny, a teammate, brought in his Winchester 52D with peep sights, an aftermarket stock and 2 ounce trigger for me to shoot each week for the remainder of the season. My scores climbed up into the mid 390’s and we won the league. Denny said it was because of my handicap.

Plan is coming together. Scope blocks located and ordered. Rings and optics ordered. Tim thickness gauge and rosin on the way. Eight kinds of upper tier ammo assembled. Barrel cleaned properly, bedding checked, screws torqued. Will weigh and sort ammo by weight and rim thickness.
When all is ready a three way test comparing a 1926 Model 52, a CZ455 Varmint and my Shaw barrelled, Kidd triger, laminated stock 10-22. Then, a calm day, calm nerves, and see if this one lives to the old hype.
