EAA Witness Match 9mm mags problems

As some of you know, I just got a Elite Match in 9mm. It shoots like a dream, but the mags are a bit picky. I had the mag falling out issue that someone else has had. I have even adjusted the tab out to help them stay in. But upon close inspection, it appears the problem with the mag well is too large.

It goes into the mag release tab and is held tight if you load the mag with some force, pressing it towards the front of the grip. If you load it with average force, and don't push to wards the front of the grip, it does not engage all the way into the mag release.

If you take the grips off, you will see towards the bottom of the grip, there is about a 1mm or so, space between the mag and the rear of the frame.

Anyone else have a 9mm or .40 with mag issues like this?

Is this normal with the large framed EAA's?
 
Sounds like you got a bum magazine. Have you tried any other mags?

I own a few EAA EMs and Limiteds, none have any issues or problems. I've sold dozens of EAA EM pistols and none of them have had any problems.

I'd take it back to where you got it and let them have a go at it.

You're the first person that I've heard have a problem of this nature.

Shoulda bought from me , you woudn't be having this problem.
 
I have 4 mags, all factory, and they all do it. I had my local gun dealer get it for me. He had to order it, but I have done business with him in the past.

Plus, why buy a gun on line, when I can buy it locally for the same price :)
 
'cause I don't sell garbage and when you lead people to believe you'll buy from them you should follow through. :D

Maybe your mag. release is the issue.

If you're getting mags for $25, there are not factory EAA/Tanfoglio magazines.

Sorry hags; My dealer sold me factory Tanfoglio mags, in the factory bag w/ the factory stickers for $21.50

My .45 match also had the mag drop issue w/ all 3 mags.

Cure: bend out the tab a few thousands, and sand the top of the plastic mag base.
 
Even bending the tags out a bit, you have to insert the mag right, if you don't then it does not catch for me.

Ultramag, what do you think about the slide wearing on one side, but not the other. I has about 75 rounds through it now.
 
Looking at the mag release, I have a the newer one, but I think if I took mine out and filed it down on the top side it would help a bit.
 
Yes mine does. Says Tangfolio on the base, and came with a stupid pink warning tag in the bag were EAA washes it's hands if the mags don't work. But I paid $25 for mine. Remember, I bought 3 mags and the gun from the dealer.
 
I found/read that you need to sand the plastic mag pad a bit --- it is a little big and will only lock up IF you really "slam" the mag in --- take it off and sand the top a little and it will lock much more positive.

Ok, they sound like EAA/Tanfoglio magazines to me. Whatever, there are old mags floating around and they were upgraded for a reason.

Wonder what the problem you're having is, spring, mag. catch seem small or fitted wrong?

Also, like I mentioned on your other thread the wear on one rail versus the other is, or shouldn't be, a concern.
 
I was just curious if others had wear only one one side of the slide, or if it was just mine.

SureThing: keep a close eye on it. Disassemble the pistol and look for any abnomalities. It just may be a finish thing. if anything looks wrong, STOP shooting the gun!

hags, Here's what you don't know. I am a very loyal be-och to my dealer. I buy 99% of my guns from him, or he handles the transfers. He makes $$ every time.

I bring food, either bought, or homemade to the gun shop.

When he has been very busy, I've shown guns to other prospective customers, described the guns features, and sold them on buying the gun.

That's why he sold me mags @ just above his cost. I can also just say: "I want that gun", and put it in the store safe without putting down any deposit $$.

Right then, any questions?

If your .45 had the same issues then they sound like defective mags as well. The question wasn't about magazine prices. I've moved on already, why don't you?

That's nice of you to bring food, anything else you do for him on the side?

That's below dealer cost, so I questioned it, any questions?

Ok, I just got off my fat ass and grabbed my EAA dealer price list.

You are correct, I was $10 off.

I'll go take the size 13 out of my mouth now.

No, I sometimes speak without thinking or checking my facts, my bad.

I have dealt with them on numerous occasions over the last few years. I am on dealer direct pricing with them.
Contrary to seemingly everyone else's experiences I haven't had a problem with them.
 
Hate to throw in a curve-ball here, but Tanfoglio (the maker of the gun) mags all have an orange follower. If yours does not have an orange follower it is not a Tanfoglio mag.

I have a bag of followers and Wolff Springs. Chances are if you have a silver-colored mag it is not OE. The silver ones will work fine as long as you "fit" an OW follower.

I usually replace the bas pad of the mag at the same time, but if you are budget-minded you don't want to know I pay $40 for machined aluminum base pads...

Because you are shooting 9mm, I'd guess all you need is a mag spacer. The EAA guns are all large frame. They are designed for .45s. Mags for smaller calibers require a spacer to be 100 percent.
 
I have

Do you mean all Tanfoglio mags, because I have some that have red followers, and some that have black followers? All factory mags. In fact, I have none with orange followers.
 
Everything I have in stock, have in stock with the pistols, and have sold with the pistols has/had an orange follower.

They have the rail inside the front of the magazine also.

I know mine are geniune Tanfoglio magazines bought from EAA.
