i was offered this S&W nickled 6" .32 long revolver at a good price in very good condition serial #51615* star, a friend said it may have been renickled and all i needed was a pair of pearl grips to make into a pimps revolver. i have a box of .32 shorts, so i will be able to shoot it. for a old .32 revolver it reeks of quality compared to some of the other older .32 revolver makers. come fall i may pop a few rabbits sitting in the fence rows with the .32 shorts at 5-6 feet. eastbank.

Think you will find that the .32 Long S&W will also work. Sometimes you can find a box of semiwad cutters from some foriegn company

Sweet! Looks like someone did a decent job of it if it has been replated. Like the 6" barrel and round butt grips!

Look closely at the lettering on the barrel, the "Made in USA' and the S&W emblem on the frame. If the lettering isn't crisp, there is a good chance it was refinished. If it's a shooter for you and not anything you care about for collector value, then it doesn't really matter.

I love the old I-Frames! This looks like a nice old shooter, and who cares if it was re-nickelled? Last year I picked up a 4" gun in rough shape, refinished it and added a t-grip style adapter. It's a peach to shoot- I think you'll enjoy this gun. I need to pick up some reloading dies so I can shoot it more often.

here are three close up pictures of the markings, if it was renickeled (factory?) it was a good job. eastbank.

Have to say the lettering looks pretty clean and crisp, especially for how old it is. If it was renickeled then as you say whoever did it did a good job.

Have to agree. If that's a refinish, it is really nicely done.

Hey Eastbank,
The star is a generally accepted sign of a Smith that had been returned to the factory.
Sometimes just a repair, but usually accompanied with a factory re-finish on older models.
Under the stocks on the frame, there should be a date marking with (hopefully) an 'N' in a square.
That is the factory marking for their re-finish.

Good find! I have a few 32's and reloading for them is just the ticket. I already had a set of 32 ACP dies and purchased a shell holder to fit the rimmed brass. This combo will reload all of them passably. If you are going to get a set of dies dedicated to rimmed 32 get the 32 short set. They will load all the longer ammo all the way to 327 FED. The roll crimp will work better than the taper-then-roll crimp of the 32 ACP when loading the larger sized lead bullets. Lead is the most accurate in all of mine.;)
