Educate Me Re: Kramer Commander Holsters

I don't know much about holsters in general, but blind luck guided me to a Kramer OWB holster for my HK Compact.

I like it and don't even know what model it is or what's it's made of.


Couple of questions about a Kramer for a Commander that I might carry:

1. Does Kramer make a Commander holster that has a piece of leather between the frame/grip and your body? My gut kind of pushes against the HK, but it's not too uncomfortable. Would be more comfortable with some material there.

2. How well do the Kramer paddle holsters work? It sure would be more convenient to add and remove.

I'll look for a used one first.

Kramer Gun Leather is one of the top holster makers.

What you have there is a Kramer "Belt Scabbard". They do have slide guard/flab tab/sweat shield/etc, but they are typically shorter (on the Belt Scabbard and IWB models) than most of the competition.

The Kramer paddle holster is one of the most (if not the only) well regarded paddle holsters. I'm not a paddle fan, but the Kramer paddle holster routinely gets high marks.

They are best know for their work with horsehide.

Edit: If you want a tall slide guard, try the High Noon "Slide Guard". They are also available in horsehide.

Another easy on/easy off option that I would prefer to a paddle is something like the Alessi CQC-S and the reasonable facsimiles.

Is the Highnoon quality on par with the Kramer?

If you are looking for a model with that name, it's not there. The sweat shield is on your holster (I'm assuming), it's just short and you don't see it on the Kramer site (or your picture) since the pistol is holstered and covers the sweat shield from the front view.

Here is a picture of a Kramer Belt Scabbard at Gunners Alley, where you can see the sweat shield. It's there, but it's short.

Kramer's IWB models, #2, #3, etc also have short sweat shields like the Belt Scabbard's. High Noon on the other hand makes a very tall sweat shield as does Horseshoe Leather.

Most other makers have a sweat shield somewhere in between these two extremes. If you don't like the sweat shield, you can get the High Noon "Topless" that is basically the Slide Guard, without the slide guard.

Is the Highnoon quality on par with the Kramer?

I have a High Noon "Slide Guard" and it is an excellent holster. I don't have any first hand experience with Kramer, but I think, at least reputation wise, Kramer is a little higher up the food chain.

However, judging by pictures of the Kramer products and my first hand experience with my High Noon, I believe my Slide Guard rides higher (thus more concealable) than the Kramer Belt Scabbard, the "boning" is more detailed on the Slide Guard, and the Slide Guard offers the tension screw to adjust the tension of the holster. The stitching on my High Noon also looks better than what I've seen on most Kramer models.

There are lots of good holster makers out there. You just need to find what works for you. Even when you find what works, you'll probably try something else just to see if that works better. I know that's the way I am, at least.

Kramers are excellent holsters and I'd put quality above a high noon. I believe the quality og the holster should reflect the quality of the gun.
Here's a setup I had put together not long ago. Its the top one with the Kimber in it.

I have a Kramer Belt Scabbard like the one in the pic with the HK for my CCO size 1911. Terrific holster, has the skin guard, holds the gun nice and snug to the body. The gun stays in the holster securely but the draw is still smooth and the mouth of the holster stays open for easy reholstering. It is one of my favorites.

If that's true, then you need to get a lesser holster for your Kimber than that beautiful Andrews MacDaniel.
