Ehrlich undecided on assault rifles

Ehrlich said yesterday that he hasn't taken a position on legislation...
Yesterday, Ehrlich straddled the fence...
Not good. Hmm, Pittsburgh or Philidelphia are looking better all the time.

Guys, I wasn't paying attention to the details about Tues because I was thinking I can't go due to a class (miss one in this course and it's an automatic F). However, it is an evening course. Depending on the time I might be able to go (at least to some of the protest). What time is the gathering? If I can leave by about 5PM I should be able to be there.

The hearing is at 1PM Tuesday

The activities start at 10 am

If they really start the hearing at 1pm
like last year, they can drag it to 8 pm

This year, however, they don't have 10 other gun bills
on the docket to delay the AWB hearing.

Last year the bill died in the drawer,
but this year its coming out fast.

Erhlich needs to see everyone in Annapolis Tuesday.

If you can show up for 1pm and stay till 5pm, thats cool.
If the pro-gunnies arrive in force,
you may not get to see the inside of the hearing room.

Make sure you are identifiable as pro gun.

I'm sending 150 "Cas Who? badges down.

Chaim, you are SO there!

We are trying to get there around 10:00 am so we can fill the place up before the Anti's do.

The actual hearing starts at 1:00pm. You don't have to be there for the whole thing.

See you there!

I called Haines office and left my opposition but I didn't think to press on his position. I can't believe that a Carroll County politician would take an anti-gun view, but then again he is one of those entrenched fixtures that always gets voted in.

I can't make it Tuesday but I'll put in another round of calls on Monday.

Make sure you are identifiable as pro gun.

I have a red "Maryland Gun Owneres Vote" sticker that I'll be wearing on my Jacket.

Don't forget to dress nicely. We'll look better to the media and the Senator's if we are wearing Jackets and ties.

Does anyone know of any Maryland anti gun groups that have a web site with info on Tuesday?

I'm curious what they are saying and planing
I doubt there is such a thing as a website where they are allowed to say anything. Discussion can promote truth. You can rest assured that there fair share of support for rallys and all will come from articles in local newspapers.

CeaseFire Maryland and Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Lobby Day

in support of SB 288, The Assault Weapons Ban of 2004

On September 14, 2004, the Federal Assault Weapons Ban will expire. We need to pass SB 288, which will keep military-style assault rifles off of our streets in Maryland, if Congress fails to renew the federal ban.

When:

Tuesday, February 10th, 2004
9.00 - 1.00 pm

Where:

St Anne's Parish Hall
Entrance at 199 Duke of Gloucester Road

Annapolis, M

Briefing - 9.00 - 10.30 am
You will be given talking points on SB 288 and be trained on how to effectively communicate with your legislators.

"You will be given talking points on SB 288 and be trained on how to effectively communicate with your legislators."

In other words:

"You will be told what to say. No free thinking is allowed. Do as we say"

the MAHAites will make sure the sheeple are confused on the machine gun definition,
they define assault weapons by citing hollywood movie examples

At the Ceasefire MD fundraiser many of the attendies had no idea that more kids drown than are accidentally killed with guns

I'm sorry if the info is already out, but there are several related threads all with a ton of posts so I don't want to go fishing for the info. Is there a meeting point for the pro-gun/anti-AWB side? Where exactly do we want to go? I can get to Annapolis and the gov't buildings there, but where from there?

Last day to send those emails and make the calls. If you did it once, don't be afraid to do it again....it's the volume of protest that counts.

See some of you tomorrow.....

I made another round of calls. I got several busy signals or voice mails the first time around so I think a lot of other people are calling in as well. Hopefully, most are with us and not the antis. Anyway, I made a point of adding an editorial comment for each one who is a registered Democrat- I made sure to tell them that I am a lifelong Democrat (true since I haven't changed my registration yet- not until after the primaries) and that I've often been involved with volunteering on elections (true) but that this bill is so important that I will be contributing to the opponent of everyone who votes for this bill (true), even :)rolleyes: ) if it means contributing to and even volunteering for Republicans. Hey, I was honest, it is true that I am still a Democrat until after the primaries, and I don't have to tell anyone that I'm more Republican these days than Democrat. Hopefully, this had at least a little impact. Of course most seemed to ignore my comment but after my "editorial" Sen. Brochin's aide wanted to be sure that I knew that while he was still undecided on this bill he "believes strongly in the inherent right to self defense":D

Will not be able attend at 1300 hours or earlier. Will try later in the day if I can.

Last Wednesday I got this e-mail from Delegate Don Dwyer, whom I have never heard of before. He is not in my District. Dywer says the Governor wants the Committee swamped with phonecalls. I guess the Governor does not want that Bill to cross his desk. Here is the note.

Dear 2nd Amendment defenders,

The Maryland Assault Weapons Ban 2004 - Senate Bill 288 sponsored by Sen.
Garagiola will be heard in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee on
Tuesday, February 10 at 1:00pm.

Governor Ehrlich has requested that the Senate Judicial Proceedings
Committee be swamped with phone calls. Please call and express your
opposition to Senate Bill 288. Call, have your friends, your brothers,
sisters, and cousins call, and keep calling throughout this week, leave
messages this weekend, and continue calling next week. Call again on Tuesday
morning or just before 1:00pm. Give Particular Attention to Senators James
Brochin and John Giannetti, and to Chairman Brian Frosh.

Constitutionally yours,
Delegate Don Dwyer, Jr.

Mr. Dwyer will get my vote next time around too.....here is his reply to an email I sent him:

Scott,

Thanks for the note. I assure you I will fight for your rights that are
guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. I for one, know and respect your
rights!

We need you to continue to voice your support of your rights as a law biding
citizen of these United States. We can not allow this nonsense to continue.

KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY!

Constitutionally yours,
Delegate Don Dwyer, Jr

Sounds like a good man to me!

"KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY"

NOT spoken like a professional politician....very cool:cool:

This is a response I got back last Thursday from my e-mail to Senator Nancy Jacobs.

Thank you for taking the time to register your opinion with me. I am
strongly opposed to this bill, as it is a violation of the rights of law
abiding citizens. This bill is being heard before my committee, Judicial
Proceedings, on Tuesday February 10. I will certainly be actively working
to ensure that this bill fails.
BTW, I am on MPT tomorrow night at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 10:30 AM debating
this very bill with my good, liberal friend Senator Grosfeld. Be sure to
let me know how I do if you tune in!
Thanks for your support,
Nancy
