i own and shoot a rossie 92 win clone in 44-40, three marlin cowboys in 44-40,30-30, and 38-55 and several original win 1892,s in 25-20,32-20,38-40 and 44-40 and they all handle close to the top reloads. but for just plain fun loads i shoot lead bullets at original speeds. i don,t think the original win 1892,s can be beat,but the good ones are going thru the roof price wise. eastbank.
I have an M1894. I have handled lots of 1892's.
As a class the strength between the two will be a wash. Both are rear locking mechanisms, neither are going to be as strong or stiff as a front locking bolt rifle. Or a decent single shot.
I do not own a Winchester lever action as I consider the Marlins to be better designs. For example, any Marlin, except for a M1881, is a lot easier to clean. All you have to do is remove the lever screw, pull out the bolt, ejector will fall out, and you can clean the thing from the breech and wipe junk from inside the receiver.
Winchesters are much more difficult.
Even a total disassembly of a Marlin action is a lot easier than a Winchester.

the marlin may be alittle easier to clean, but the win has more locking area and is easier to clear a jam, i have a grafrite rod with a muzzle guild and find the win easy to clean,after a 1000 or so rounds i take the butt stock off and hose out with a good gun scrubber and that gets it squaky clean. as i own over 20 lever actions,both marlin and winchester,i lean towards the win for their lightness and trim handleing qualties. if you handle a eary marlin 1894 or 1893 you will notice their better handleing qualties compared to the newer ones. i believe they started makeing the bulky forends in the 30,s along with the round bolt with the tinny extrator. eastbank.

Both Marlin & Winchesters are good guns.
Back in the 19th century, Winchester used to drive John Marlin & Co. nuts. Marlin came out with lever rifles that were stronger and could handle BIG blackpowder cartridges while Winchester was still churning out the toggle-link lever designs. Marlin would come out with a rifle in a proprietary caliber, and then Winchester would come out with a similar rifle .... and Marlin, in order to keep up a healthy amount of market share would wind up producing its rifles in the Winchester caliber.
Until Winchester started buying John M. Browning designs (like the 1886 & 1892 designs) Marlin really had the superior rifles .... but Winchester was a marketing genius. He (and his salesmen) knew how to push their rifles, popularize them, and get the name in peoples' minds. It worked. "The rifle that won the west" is the Winchester 1873. Except there were plenty of other guns out there .... and if you were a real hunter, out for buffalo, you would have a heavy single shot like a Sharps or Remington Rolling Block style rifle.
My only problem with Marlins when I first got into shooting circa 1991 was their .30-30s had a BIG chunky fore end. I prefered the Winchester 1894. But Marlin has other rifles that are real nice, and Slamfire1's Marlin is one of 'em!
In all the western TV shows, the Winchester 1892 seems ubiquitous. Paladin in HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL, however, did have a Marlin like the one above (with the Knight's symbol on its stock) and Marlins were also seen in the Lee Majors western, BIG VALLEY.

you will see win 92,s and 94,s in the movies that pre-date them, but due to the amount out there and cheapness at the time they were used in civil war movies and westerns that were eariler then 1892. the lawless west was just about over when the 92 win came on the scene. the big 1876 win(i shoot a 300gr bullet at 1400fps in my 1876) was the first large calibure lever action not the marlin 1881, i think the best large frame win at the time was the 1886 and the best marlin was the 1895, both being equal in my mind. eastbank.
