Employer gun free zones

All this talk of integrity yet you have never answered the direct question of how you accept a driver's license knowing full well that you will speed and do other things that are not rules but unlawful. You have proven that you only stand proudly on rules you consider valid to you and have chosen to say that if someone else sees it different, they are less than the fine, upstanding person that you are. However, you break a law every time you speed and think nothing of it. How can that be? Quit avoiding the question as you have done for days now. How can breaking a law be OK to your moral self and breaking a company rule be so wrong? Using your logic, if you know you will speed, you don't have to get a license. You promise the DMV and law enforcement to follow the rules of the road knowing darn well you won't. So what is it? Do as you say and not as you do? You lost me when you equated work rule breakers as those most likely to be work criminals.

Funny I never said it was ok to break a law and not a rule. Try rereading it again.

A responsible citizen works any job necessary to feed his children and will not allow any moralizing internet demagogy get in his way. Whether to carry or not in a shop that doesn't allow it is way down the scale of priorities, and only the OP can weigh the scales of risk; personal safety on the one hand and a livelihood on the other. Both include the responsibility of staying alive for the family.

This was not directed in any way towards you. It was directed at Mr 460. Sorry for any confusion.

This isn't about yes or no to gun free zones, it is about complying with the policies and procedures of an employer who agreed to hire you if you agreed to those terms and conditions. If an employer cannot trust you or you absolutely cannot go into your work place without a gun after your employer says no, then find another job.

The company posts a No Weapons policy to cover their ass.
I might carry to cover my ass.
I've had an HR Manager/Owner, ask me about a proper firearm to keep in her desk.

You mean buck460XVR, correct? Cuz I never made a statement that rule breakers are more likely to be criminals. In fact I don't believe that for a second.

Yes, buck460. Didn't realize there were so many 460s here, lol.
I added his latest quote to help clear it up.

I work in the public sector and no weapons are allowed, violators subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. I won't do it even though I think I should be able to- my pension is a very important asset and it is not worth losing.

However- since I am a surveyor I can carry a machete and have done so in sketchy areas where I could warrant its possession for brush trimming.

Integrity: Doing the Right thing when no one is looking
or
Doing the right thing when everyone around you is telling you to do the wrong thing.

This isn't about rules, policy and regulation. This is about what is right. How we define "Right" is up to us as individuals. It's the right thing for me to carry a gun if I feel under threat, despite company policy telling me it's wrong.

Company may dictate that you do something that is a blatant safety violation. Do you refuse, thus doing the right thing, and risk losing your job? Or do you do it anyway, knowing it's wrong, dangerous, illegal, and risk losing you life?

I know which one I'd do, have done, and will do again without a second thought.

If you're willing to lose your job over it, go ahead and carry.

This is a good thought to keep in mind.

If you want to carry despite the company policies prohibiting them, that is your choice. I have nothing against that, but bear in mind that you are breaking the rule and taking that risk. I'm all for carrying when you can when you can.

The problem lies for some of us who work in places where carrying is actually prohibited by law e.g. government related jobs, some hospitals, etc. For that reason, I leave mine in the car.

I like my job and since they insist on no carry at work I don't. I don't like the policy, as well as some of their other policies, but the job I have now is worth the risk to me.
