Enfield British 303 scope mounting Choice

I have been looking at the S&K mount and the ATI mount for my Enfield. My gunsmith gave me another option today and saids it is a set up he has done alot on these and 30 carbines. Let me first tell you that the rifle has been sporterized and restocked. Anyway,You drill 4 small holes on left side of receiver and then attach the side Mount to the receiver. Then using weaver side mount rings, you attach to the side mount base. this Places the scope just about centered over the top of gun as a normal mount places it centered. Then using a Weaver V7 2x7x32 scope mount it. this allows for enough space that you don't have to take your open sights off and in fact allows you to use the open sights when you want. I liked that idea and am thinking about taking it in tomorrow and getting it done. What do you all think

I'd like to see that setup. I'd like to see a mount for the Enfield that allows you to use your iron sites also.

I like the concept. It is slightly off center, what that does for sure I am not 100% Show a picture of the side / mount also.

Another Scope Mount Option

Another good option if you can find one is a mount that was sold by Brownells under the part number 100-000-319 it was quick detachable and did not require you to drill or tap your rifle it was simple to mount and install and you could quickly remove your scope by turning two knobs.
I have tried all of the mounts for the Enfield the S&K and this one which was originally made by Cad Technik are IMO the best of all of the no drill mounts made.
Surplusrifle.com did a revue of them when they were available, sadly Brownells does not seem to offer them at the present time.
You could check e bay as they turn up from time to time they are worth looking for especially if you ever plan to restore the rifle and do not want holes in the receiver.

It seems I read something elsewhere on THR, about 5 months ago, that a guy did a similar mount to what you have pictured here and the offset really gave him troubles with accuracy. I don't remember if he ever followed up with his final results or if he gave up and just went ahead and got the S&K mount. Cheaper than Dirt had the S&K mounts for the best price I could find for my M1917 a few months back. I got it and love it. Very sturdy and still plenty of room to load cartridges one at a time. I cant use the stripper clips any longer but it's not much slower. The scope is centered and I can shoot sub-MOA with it with my cheapo 4-16X40 Center Pointe scope.

Good luck, and if you do decide to go that direction, let us know your results and also what adjustments you had to make in regard to accuracy. I would love to have my peep sights back on my M1917 if I could still have the scope attached at the same time, it would be awesome!

I bought an sk mount from Brownells for $65. It's rock solid and I've had no issues whatsoever.

S&K from Brownells too. Well made, works good. But remember to use Loctite on the three screws (I didn't the first time, and wasted 20 rounds before I realize the base was wobbling). And the S&K has weaver mounts, so you have a lot of ring choices. I used Leupold quick detach, and a Leupold scope (because the gun shop had the rings in stock and I already had the scope).

And the S&K doesn't require drilling and tapping, which in your case probably doesn't make much difference because it's a sporter, but at least you won't have to pay a gunsmith. And when you buy your NEXT Enfield (because everyone should own at least two!) you can return it to stock condition in a few minutes.

One thing you'll have to get with it being so high is a cheek piece of some sort to raise your eye otherwise you'll be getting a sore neck...
