Enfield mag conversions

So you might remember my enfield post from a week or so ago about feeding problems. I thought i fixed it but no go, it will only feed 3 or less rounds without jamming. So im going to get a new mag, but before i do i was wondering if anyone has converted another guns mag to the Enfield 2A? Maybe an FAL?

My 303 is home so I can make the comparasion between the two.


1. 303 follower has a step in it that runs the full length of the follower. 7.62 NATO runs about half way from the back.

2. The two tabs on the front of the 303 mag are smaller and more bent in than the 7.62 NATO.

3. The rear tabs on the 7.62 NATO are bigger and more bent in than the 303

In summary I don't think you can convert a 303 mag to 7.62 NATO as the 303 has less metal in the tabs are are bent in at the front and rear of the magazine. The locking lugs are the same so you could put a 303 in a 7.62 but that's where the similarity ends. The 303 and 7.62 are totally different magazines.

Thank you very much for taking the time to see if the 303 worked. Its too bad it doesnt but im sure ill find a 308 mag, i just was hoping i could use a mag that was a little less "rare"
 
303 to 7.62 mag conversions.

You can try and get a spare mag, they come up occasionally, but are getting rarer by the minute. If you end up with a choice (very unlikely) go for the Stirling mag, it is the best.

One conversion done here by a guy in Queensland is an inner straight stack mag contained within the original mag. Holds 5 rounds in a vertical column. Utilises the standard spring. works ok, straight line feeding. I have never seen one and have gone down this route a few times, but sold off the rifles each time because it got too hard.

I recently bought a Lithgow 7.62 conversion which was absolutely mint. It is very rare apparently and my friend who owns a gunshop here started offering huge sums of money for it. I will be able to but a new MK10 7.62 and still walk away with a $1000 or there abouts. Gotta get a win sometimes.

I forgot to mention there are a lot of 7.62 conversions around and as they were used for single shot long range shooting did not benefit from the mag conversion. The old mag was left in place to fill up the hole.
