I've been able to enjoy some horror movies after becoming a gun owner, but the 'College kids in trouble on roadtrip' genre is not one of them.

Movies such as Wrong Turn (inbred WV hillbillies attack), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (need I explain?), Jeepers Creepers (demonic thing attacks) and Joy Ride (college kids messing around with a CB get into trouble) leave me yelling things such as 'where is your truck gun?!', 'Did you leave the house without your pistol?!', 'Dont you know how to get a car off a rock?' and 'Grab his weapon! Dont just run, grab his weapon!' until I'm banished to finish the movie on my own.

I swear, if I ever go on a roadtrip without my 590A1 and/or a pistol (especially if a member of the fairer sex is accompanying me), I deserve to be stalked or chased through five counties by inbred, demonic, West Virginian, chainsaw wielding hillbillies driving 18-wheelers trying to run me off the road in Texas so they can steal my Twinkies and drink my beer.

Does anyone else have this same problem?

Kharn

[this post should not be construed as bias against inbred, demonic, West Virginian, chainsaw wielding hillbillies driving 18-wheelers in Texas with a liking for Twinkies and beer, some things are just a coincidence]

I'm not too sure to about how the laws on driving with guns are, but in California, pretty soon you will only to buy ammo at the range and you will have to have a Govt. agent take your gun to the range for you.

If I was going on a road trip where I was camping or off the beaten path, my Mossberg 500 would be along for the ride. BBED

i have had alot of problems being attacked by inbred, demonic, West Virginian, chainsaw wielding hillbillies driving 18-wheelers trying to run me off the road in Texas so they can steal my Twinkies and drink my beer. mounting a .50 cal machine gun to the roof of my camry (like humvees) has solved this problem for me.

"in California, pretty soon you will only to buy ammo at the range and you will have to have a Govt. agent take your gun to the range for you."

No offense intended to you or our other brothers in California, but that is the primary reason I try never to go there. Sometimes, it can't be helped but I try not to go places where my rights are infringed and I am left partially defenseless. I am also paranoid that I might have something in the car that I overlooked. In fact, to go there, it takes me a half hour to remove all the stuff from my truck.
When I drive to Arizona, it would be a nice shortcut to go down I15 and cut through a little piece of California, but I take the long way around. Especially if I am driving to Gunsite.

Yes, those movies gag me. If I am watching a movie like that I normally walk away and find something better to do. I watched a movie the other day that was a doomsday type movie set in England where some animal rights activists tryed to free some monkeys from a lab. The monkeys were infected with something they called rage. This started an epidemic that wiped out most of the country. The survivors made no attempt to arm themselves dispite the fact that these monsters were after them. Even after they hooked up with a small group of military personel they made no attempt to arm themselves.
:barf: :barf:

I haven't been able to enjoy those movies at all since I got into guns. My friends do joke that if they ever end up in some situation like that and I'm with them, it's going to be a short encounter. Hell, I carry enough weapons for a few people. ;-)

As in real life some people are just sheeple! Bahhhhhh!! Baahhhhh!!

No guns! They are dangerous!!! Think of the little ghouls and trolls! For God's sake think of the ghouls and trolls!!:D

I really get ticked at movies where a guy (or gal) is being chased by armed bad guys, manages to knock one out, and then either a) ignores the gun the bad guy dropped, even though other bad guys are still on the prowl; or b) picks up the gun and throws it away.

Characters making mistakes are one thing, but I find I can't enjoy movies where people act just plain stupid.

(I'm not the only one. I remember seeing one of those mad slasher movies where the BG was chasing a screaming girl through a house. The chase went on . . . and on . . . and on . . . the victim did EVERYTHING wrong . . . until finally the mad slasher caught her and killed her. The audience APPLAUDED! )

McGiver syndrome; O.K. to blow someone to smitherenes but throw bad guns away?

When courting present wife we saw 'Cujo' at the movies. 'Bout halfway through she turns to me and says '" If that dumb broad would have had a pistol, this would have been a lot shorter movie"' I married her.

It might make for boring movie if 10 minutes in, the college kids blew away the hillbillies and just went on their way.

When I was in college, guns were not allowed on campus and, unless you had a CPL, couldn't be accessible in a car, so it wouldn't have done me much good. OTOH, I never vacationed in WV. :D

The survivors made no attempt to arm themselves dispite the fact that these monsters were after them.

IIRC, that movie was set in the UK.

I have this problem with all teen scream flicks, like Scream 1-3 and INWYDLS 1 and 2.

Just once I'd like to see the intended victim do a perfect draw from concealment, shoot the bad guy dead, come to Guard and assess. That would draw a cheer from me!

Heck I've seen some of these movies where the moronic victims do use a firearm. But then the BG gets up and resumes his carnage - no matter how many times he's shot. I think this happened in Friday the 13th Pt 4 or 5. The local police department shot Jason like 200 times with .357 mags and 12 guage rounds and he still killed all of the cops.

The movie set in England was called Thirty Days Later and yes it was stupid. For while I understand that firearms are rare in England I would thing that the survivors would have found at least a couple double barrel shotguns SOMEWHERE or maybe a Glock 17 in one of the (deserted) police stations. At least it would be worth a try.I noticed that one of the characters had scrounged up some police riot gear so why not a couple police firearms? But no instead they rely on cricket bats and machettes. :cuss:

Yep, I've had the same problem. The good thing is my friend is a recent convert who is just starting to think the same way. :D

It's gone from one-sided complaining to a well-rounded, sometimes funny, discussion.

"The movie set in England was called Thirty Days Later..........."

Well when the military guys were killed I would have taken their SA80s since that was all that was available. They also had some kind of belt fed machine gun, claymores, and land mines.

Yeah, we had the same rule when i was going to university. But, then again they couldnt search my room without a warrent...

The whole deal with 28 Days Later was that these people set these monkeys free, who'd been forced to, basically, endure exposure to media of all the worst human cruelties and violence (they made the monkeys watch media coverage of all sorts of bad stuff going down), and the "Rage" became a physical and psychological ailment. It became a blood-borne, infectious disease, filling the carrier with an absolutely insatiable urge to kill anything not similarly infected.

It sort of bugged me that the characters never armed themselves, too, but part of the idea of the movie is that these people aren't armed there's a lot of commentary in the movie about society and corruption (very little about guns, thankfully. Almost no mention; the only "bad" thing about guns is that only some of the bad live-humans have them, and the main character seems heroic because he never uses them.)

Nevertheless, I thought it was an excellent film. Try going back and seeing it again without the 7.62mm-tinted glasses. Honestly, I bug the hell out of my friends by doing stuff like naming guns in movies, and making comments like "gah, if this dude had a gun, this movie would be eight minutes long." but seriously, sometimes you need to just sit back and watch a good horror movie like it needs to be watched.

PS. Man, I think THRers would hate some of LoveCraft's works, most times, firearms are totally useless against the aberrations oft-encountered in that whackjob's nighmare-inducing writing. Never let a THR-er play Call of Cthulhu, either; I mean, what's the point if you can't even take down Cthulhu with an M134?

Can't you guys just watch a movie and enjoy the hot chicks?
Well El T...
I sure do miss the Drive-Ins:D
You mean there was a movie?
Always, Always know about the movie...the daddy "might" just ask what is was about...he didn't that time when I brought his daughter home at 5 am though...all night movie marathon...we fell asleep.
I think the beer cans and wine bottles gave us away when I open the door...oops.

No I always carried - even back then.
Many a time her daddy even though he knew I carried, let her carry a sub .38spl. of his. Trying times and a fella was responible for his date. Just in case 2 guns were better than one.

Parking out by the lake and have an officer shine his light from a safe distance. He didn't walk up on folks out parking...he was respectful. "We have a report of fella that shot a fella and took a shot at an officer, might be headed this way...Hey that you Steve, didn't recognize the car...oh she has new car...you guys are packing right...be careful out here. You have to shoot anybody...just ask for me..."

We kinda kept hoping that yellow Barracuda would pull in amongst us ...err...couples enjoying the moolight at the lake...knowing the folks out there...he would have been surrounded by a posse:)

We hauled off more than once to Houston, Dallas, parts unknown - always packing. I never worried about rest stops or taking an exit in a part of town.

I was more worried about doing 100 mph barrelling down Hwy 59...than monsters, road trips and such...

We laughed during the "Excorcist", had to see the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" many times..."Jaws" scared the crap out of her. Caught me off guard.

Tip: After seeing "Jaws"...never ever get cute in the Gulf Of Mexico and dive under and nibble on GF's calf, and upper thigh...when you surface you will get popped hard - fist to jaw, none of this slapping business...

*SPOILER ALERT* Regarding 28 Days Later.

Thanks for the correction Slamfire. After I posted my reply I realized that 30 Days Later wasn't right, but didn't fix it. Actually I did find it interesting in the alternate ending that after the male lead dies the girl takes the Hi-Power(?) from his body. I also liked the fact that the director and writer in their commentery claim this shows that the two women are tougher now and ready to handle the situation themselves, or something like that.

What I really liked was in the other alternate ending, with the storyboard art, in which they have the older woman teaching herself how to work the SA-80 and very effectively.

I don't mind the occassional horror movie and I can handle the villains being supernatural, but I do have trouble with how stupid some of the characters are in the movies. I'd like to see a horror movie in which the protaganists act like the rest of us (no I'm not going into that really creepy, bad smelling and dark basement). Show some work on the part of the writer.

Did anyone notice a huge hole in the plot of Texas Chainsaw Masacre?

A van full of people in Texas and not one gun? I thought it was law in TX that you had to carry ;) or at least have longhorns on the hood.

Can't you guys just watch a movie and enjoy the hot chicks?

That's the only thing that kept me watching that new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie as much as I did. JB is unbelievable. Run past the camera to the house, run past the camera away from the house. Repeat. Genius!

well, they were dope smugglers from Mexico, so maybe it was just karma?

Re horror flix, we rented and watched "The Birds" a month ago. I kept saying to the family "Nothing here a good 12 gauge pump wouldn't take care of."

LOL! Actually I love the HP Lovecraft series of books and had many fun hours losing my "sanity" playing the Call of Cthullhu RPG. You haven't lived until on insane party member convinces another insane party member to summon Cthuga because he's a "cute little servant spirit that will fetch the paper and your afternoon tea." The whole island of manhatten went bye-bye in that little side adventure.

On the horror film front: Yes, I gain little enjoyment from watching most horror films. Too many stupid people in the land of film for my taste. I'd say my favorite ones would be the Evil Dead series as Ash actually tries to fight back and Resident Evil where Mila Javovich kicks butt getting through the underground complex. I prefer people who actual stand up to the bad guys as opposed to the idjits that run around in a circle screaming and drawing lethal attention to themselves.

BTW, I think you could take out Cthullhu with the appropriate weapons system.... "Pull back and nuke the sight from orbit, it's the only way to be sure." What's that rule I'm thinking of for gunfights? Oh, yeah..."First, bring enough gun."
