I was looking at optics for my AR15 and was wondering what you all thought of the EOtech 557 with the FTS G23 magnifier. It seems like a good setup, but I have no firsthand experience with it. My AR is a 16" barrel and I have flip up front and rear sights. How do the EOtechs compare to Aimpoints? Please offer any feedback. Also, what is a good price for the 557/G23 setup? Thanks.

I have a similar set up on a LWRC. It's very nice!

I have the eotech xps 2-0 with primary arms 3x magnafier and I works for what I need. I like to turn the glow down low on mine for better accuracy. I can hit my 4"x6" gong at 200yds everytime even without the magnafier, but at that range its a little quicker with the magnafier. I put this on to replace my 3x9 leupold and don't regret it for a second. You get one heck of a field of veiw also.

I like the concept of having a red dot/holographic sight coupled with a magnifier. I am more interested in whether the EOtech 557 is a good optic. If I am dropping over $500 on a sight, it better be clear and tough and able to work as advertised. I know I've heard a few things about the reticle and dots being blurry; is this true? Does the 557 meet my expectations? Thanks.

The EOTech has a larger field of view than an Aimpoint, but it has a MUCH shorter battery life, which requires it to be turned off when you store it. The Aimpoint can be left on full power for years without running out. So in the event that you need it, you just grab it and go. Whereas with the EOTech, you have to hit a button. Also the Aimpoint will probably take a little more abuse than the EOTech and still stay functioning, though they're both pretty tough. Also, since the Aimpoint is a tube-body optic, it can be mounted much lower than the EOTech. It doesn't matter on an AR, but if you have other weapons you might want to use it on, like a shotgun or an AK or an M1A, it is nice to be able to mount an Aimpoint nice and low so you still have a good cheek weld.

Being that you can get an Aimpoint PRO with a 2 MOA dot, night vision capability, and a mount included for $400, I would go with that option personally.
