I did notice , at the gun show, looking thru it from a dark room at the bright outside, that the reticle washed out. Also the dot was a bit fuzzy. And of course you need to turn it on and it needs batteries.
I don't know if you tried, but did you crank up the brightness to the full level? It's not dependant on the environment you're in (ie a optic fiber), but rather what it is projected on. The EOTech can get very bright, bright enough that even under normal viewing, the reticle can "bloom" noticably.
When using the EOTech, you don't focus your eyes on the reticle itself, which would seem blurry. You use both eyes to superimpose the reticle on the target and it works. As well, you reduce the brightness a bit because it's possible some of the "blur" might be an overly powerful reticle blooming. The central dot is very sharp when the brightness level is adjusted optimally for the target. Also its been reported that if you have any sort of astigmatism or optical abberations in your eye, it can skew the holographic display.
The battery life isn't insane like the Aimpoints which are pushing 80k hours on some models, but its still a reasonable 1000+ with easier battery formats to find (AA, CR123, and N)
As hinted, I do own an EOTech (552F) and I like the reticle and wide window. It's very fast with the large ring so you can't loose close targets, and the 1MOA dot gives you more precision not available in the 2 or 4MOA Aimpoints.
