Did Eotech ever fix their issues?

I returned mine when they had the recall. (Even though I never experienced the thermal drift.)

Thinking of picking up another since I kind of miss that sight.

I don't know, I've had mine about 5 years with no issue . It's been great, there are a lot of new options but mines been rugged and reliable . haven't heard of a recall , but I don't do much in the AR/ tactical realm.

Don't know but think they just just sold. Interesting to see how that goes.

It was probably the same time you bought yours (4-5yrs ago).

It depends on what model you’re talking about and what you’re using it for. It seems that the AA models with the batteries parallel to the bore have the most trouble. Those models with the battery perpendicular to the bore do much better.

Personally, I gave up on them and stick to Aimpoints and Acogs for firearms that matter.

I love that reticle. I returned my EOTech when the recall was underway. My issue with mine was the brightness had diminished considerably affecting reticle visibility in bright light.

I haven't kept up with EOTech since the recall, though.

IIRC they were able to fix most of the issues but aspects of the thermal drift issue are not fixable without changes to fundamental physics (ie all material changes size with temperature changes).

Eotech's FAQ claims that a post Oct 2016 maximum possible thermal drift is 3.5 MOA over -40 deg F to 122 F but that most units will experience only 1.4-1.8 MOA shift. Pre Oct 2016 it could be as much as 5MOA.

Nope...EOTech is still part of L3Harris. You may be thinking about last year's merger between L3 (EOTech's parent) and Harris.

I hear ya. I liked the reticle too. I killed a bunch of the AA models. I actually think I gave a couple away here on THR. I wonder if those guys/scopes are still around. Well, it was either here or in AR15.com.

After I lost faith in the EOTech, I went to Aimpoint for dots and the acog ta44 for that reticle. It’s actually much more defined in the acog.

I have, however, talked to a bunch of guys running the EOTech model that takes the cr123 transverse mounted battery and they all, but one, say that they haven’t had any problems.

I used them extensively in the mil and later as a contractor. I never dealt with the problems with the zero loss, but we had issues with the battery boxes on the early models failing. The later models that use a single 123 battery were solid in this regard. As for me, I prefer with aimpoint now for that type of optic.

Only issue I've ever had, is it starts up at a medium setting, not the last setting. And maybe battery life. Still the quickest carbine optic out there.

Oh, and they're a bit weak in super bright direct sunlight. So don't put them on a rifle that you can't shoot well with backup iron sights. My Eotech is the only optic that I cowitness. My others are lower 1/3 cowitness.

Haven't tried their new magnified scopes yet. Been an Trijicon Eotech fan for a while without issues. You get what you pay for.

Holosun 510 is sort of the same Reticle, but not a true Holo sight.

    Short answer, yes.

NSW still runs EOTechs, and a few departments up here still use 'em. I finally had an old 512 (that I bought in 2004) crap out after never having any problems. I figure 15 years of reliable service paid for itself.

Another newer 512 is still running strong, as is the EXPS-2.

I don’t like them for a couple of reasons. There are better optics out there.

In the immortal words of the legendary Patrick Swayze in the classic flick Road House: "Opinions vary."

I've used EOTech HWSs for years, in harm's way and as a civilian; they work well for me.

I will use an ACOG above all other optics for a real offensive or defensive scenario. Other than that I am good with irons.

I’m a bit surprised at the lack of response thus far as I was sure plenty of guys must have owned them. I too an on the fence, having looked through them here and there and having a BIL who’s nearly convinced me to take the leap. Always wanted one, just been suckered into the world of cheap but useable red dots till now.

Hoping this thread gets a bit more chatter.

If you like eotech , just get one. I've had mine 5 years as I mentioned April 1st , no issue. I wasn't aware of the recall or sights with trouble . I have the basic 2 AA simple eotech, bought it because I always have spare batteries and the price was right. I'm not an AR guy, just have one cause everyone should, so I can't say I'm running that rifle a lot. Generally I usually shoot 10 mags in the spring and 10 in the fall, just to ensure function and confirm zero. A guy shooting thousands of rounds a year may have a complaint that I wouldn't see for decades, so take that for what it's worth.

Overall though I still like the eotech , even with other more modern sights available . the reticle can look pixleated if the brightness is too high but other than that I have no complaints . sighted in when I mounted it, haven't moved it and haven't had to make any adjustments since then. I like the looks of them too, not that it matters.
