When I see Foxnews anchors, reporters, and contributors they say a lot of correct things about violence with guns such as mental health, how background checks aren't the be-all answer, waiting periods and what not. What a lot of people miss, even a lot of the former law enforcement that are on as contributors is the age of the suspects. I'm not talking about the rare school shooting which but you're average everyday shooting which is the majority of the deaths related to violence with guns in America. This is age. The Federal age to buy a handgun from a licensed dealer is 21 years old. To buy from an unlicensed dealer is 18 years old. Possession of a handgun is illegal for anyone under 21 in the states of California, New Jersey, D.C., and New York. These people aren't even going to try to pass a background check, since they know they aren't legally allowed to have a pistol in the first place. 16-24 year olds in inner-cities like Chicago, Niagra Falls, Camden, and others commit a majority of the homocides with guns and they are inherently black youths killing other black youths, many times related to gangs but not always. People should be bringing up the fact that a background check wouldn't matter when the person isn't even legally allowed to own a gun by age, background check notwithstanding. Because these people can't buy guns legally they are buying them on the street, in alleys, from the back of cars, and some straw-purchases. Someone should say, 'These potential murderers are legally not allowed to buy a gun because of age, yet they are still getting plenty of guns to commit homocides through illegal means. Let's look into how to stop this, not background checks, waiting periods, assault rifle bans, and magazine bans.'
