We know women are genetically incapable of recognizing the differences between one firearm and another, the things that men appreciate and compel us to buy different ones. So how is it they always know when we're bringing a new gun into the house and make us pay for it all over again!?

What's your best shooting-sports "I gotta hide this purchase from my wife/significant other/family" story?

I've hidden a flat of 12 ga. shells from Walmart that I put my coat over but that my girlfriend caught as I loaded all her stuff from on top of it into the trunk. She just knew I couldn't possibly need any more ammo no matter how good a price it was. I had a friend who BEGGED me to hide his new blemished Pedersoli Trade Musket because his wife would go through his truck when he came home -- guess I shouldn't have called him as a manager from Cabella's and told him we were going to sue him for an additional $200 because there was a mistake on the price tag. I had another friend who was going to sneak his new high-end 20/28 ga. shotgun combo into the house piece by piece -- guess I shouldn't have had a colleague call him earlier as if from the Beretta Showroom, who never actually called him back, and tell him he failed the credit check so he'd have to choose a lesser model than he ordered (he shopped elsewhere eventually).

So, let's hear your stories...

I haven't ever hidden one, but I have had SEVERAL friends and family members call me and tell me that they bought a gun, and not to tell their wives. Of course they always drop the ball, and do something stupid like leave the receipt lying out.

I can't get away with it, my wife chairs the finance committee. I did find a Kimber in a pawn shop I wanted once, I could lay it away for $50, and I put it down to call her, and another guy bought it while I was on the phone. She said in the future, I am allowed to lay something away without consulting her first. :)

That's one of the reasons I'm now divorced. I didn't hide my purchases. It would have happened anyway and that was 20 years ago and water under the bridge now.

Never had to hide a purchase as the wife is an avid shooter. Best story was bringing a home a Rock River AR years ago when a good deal popped up. She came in, saw the rifle and picked it up. Her first words were: "How does it fire?" :D

Trying to hide or deceive her would have been infinitely worse...

Never ever have I hidden a purchase from my wife except for presents at the various times of the year. Christmas, Birthdays, Mothers day, ect.

Regarding gun purchases she has usually encouraged me to go ahead and buy whatever it happen to be, and what goes around comes around, usually in the form of a diamond ring, necklace, or some such.

I find being truthful and honest and faithful in marriage makes for a much happier home and life for all parties conserned.

EX-wife: "You have twenty guns, you don't even shoot them all !"
Me : "You have over 100 pairs of shoes, Shut the H3ll up !"

How did we as men get ourselves into this situation ????????

Married over 32 years she does her gambling and i buy my guns and stuff. No complaints.

Do it all the time. I buy stuff and put it away, she doesn't care what I have for guns. Maybe it's not hiding so much as just not making a big deal of buying something new.

I don't hide anything from my wife. She trusts me to not do anything to stupid. She also knows that I save up my extra money a few bucks at a time and then buy when I have enough. I seldom ever take money out of the "budget" to buy me anything.

IMHO, you shouldn't have to "hide" anything from your significant other. To to do is to invite problems. If you're both adults, act like it and discuss these things beforehand, and work out a plan to purchase them. Or, god forbid, use your personal money for what you want, and let the other do the same. That way, everyone's happy and nobody has to act like a Customs agent any time you go out shopping.

Never.
A relationship is based on trust, honesty and truth. As long as the bill are paid and the savings account is fed, we really dont consult each other on purchases. In fact we both enjoy the occasional running home to show off and brag about our new found, dont need, but gotta have stuff. It is assumed, no required, that no debt was incurred by either.

And to add when I brought home a pristine used Ruger security six 3 inch she immediately claimed it, and went out and bought me a sp101.

Just my .02 YMMV

I once tried to hide a new wife from guns, my 7.7 found out and told the the 44s who told all the 22s. Long story short, still got the guns. Looking for a gun approved wife.

No, never hidden a gun from anyone, especially my wife. She likes to shoot as much as I do and when we see a deal on ammo, either one of us picks it up. Same with a gun, we will call each other to look on GB to see what a gun is going for and if a deal, she or I will pick it up. For us, there is no reason to lie about stuff, we have a very trust-worthy marriage.

Stepford Husbands!

OMG, who ARE you people!?

And your ladies seem to be failing at their responsibility, as well as missing out on the fun, of making your lives miserable. Come to think of it, actually, maybe they've already won...

Actually, if this is loosing, I'm sure enjoying it.

I've snuck three new rifles and one shot gun in the house over the course of this past year to add to my fold. My wife was not consulted about these low profile purchases. She is an Eskimo, grew up in a house full of guns and hunters, loves what I put on the table as a result, and doesn't seem to be able to count. I'm happy but mum.

I've hidden a new revolver and shotgun. But then when she dropped the ball and accidentally told me about things she bought and wasn't supposed to buy, I was perfectly justified. Of course guns generally cost a bit more than purses and shoes.

Pretty childish, though isn't it? As adults, we should be able to spend our money however we like, as long as responsibilities are taken care of first.

I wonder how many times we'll have to lock this incredibly childish, "Let's hear how you hide stuff from your wife!" threads before posters start realizing that this kind of nonsense does nothing to advance the mission of The High Road to present the positive side of gun ownership. It's really bad when someone says things like, "We know women are genetically incapable of recognizing the differences between one firearm and another." Haha, get it, women don't understand guns. Ha ha, they like shoes!

Do you ever wonder about what the women who come here looking about getting into firearms must think when we presenting it as some kind of good ol' boys club?
