Ever Reached a Point

I did recently add a couple a 93 mall ring mauser in 7x57 and a 6.5x5 mauser, bought 2 98 mauser actions this past year a dwm, in fair condition and a 51 LA coruna, 2 stocks a bishop and a fajen built the 6.5 on the dwm action in bishop stock.

Still need to decide on the caliber for the coruna action, buy barrel, bottom metal.... was thinking about 257 Robert's or 280 rem. Had a lot of help with my build from a friend and forum members father, who I also bought the 6.5 barrel from.

I'm there too. I used to buy every gun magazine the minute it hit the stands. Gun books, Shooters Bible etc. Just not really into it like that anymore. I haven't hunted in 7 years, I don't competition shoot either. I have right at what I need for my likes.

There is nothing "new" that really piques my interest either. I like old guns. I like S&W revolvers and old semi autos.

My avatar is the last time I "competed". I shot a turkey shoot at my Legion Post and won a bologna. My buddy who took the pic won the turkey and the turkey breast.

I've been thinking about another .38 snubby for the right side of the couch just to keep the one on the left side of the couch company.

Seriously, though, I have an application around the house but it's not immediately urgent. I haven't actually looked for one, just sort of keeping my eye out for an opportunity. "Puttin' the energy out there," as it were

I'm there. Have been for a while. That doesn't mean I won't buy another gun; I'm likely to do some trading on the margins. For instance, I recently made an opportunistic purchase of a second-hand Kahr PM9 to replace one I sold a few years ago. I'll be parting with a now-redundant P9. I just wanted the smaller form factor for pocket carry and the P9 is redundant with my Glock 48. I've sold a couple of rifles, but added a new upper in 6.5 Grendel. My goal at this point is selective downsizing; I'd like to halve my accumulation over the next 18 months or so.

But I remain a sucker for a good deal on any gun that catches my fancy that I know I can sell again when interest wanes.

Where there wasn’t a “next gun” on your list? I feel like I might be there. I know several members here are shooters more than collectors. I fall somewhere in the middle between shooter and accumulator. I don’t want guns that I won’t shoot, but there’s always been a “next gun” for me.I’ve got money from selling a few guns lately and the rule between my wife and I has always been that gun money remains gun money, as in, it doesn’t get used to pay the bills and such unless there is a dire emergency. I think I’ve reached a point though where I just want to shoot what I have. I’ve picked up several new rifles in the last year and a half and haven’t really had time or ammo to really get used to any of them yet. Maybe something is wrong with me. I should probably schedule a doctor’s appointment.
I’m going to be retiring this year and have actually reached that point too … thought I had several times before but it was actually just a 6 month to a year hiatus.

Your post sounds exactly like something I would write, especially the “gun money” part.
I used to buy parts kits and old beat up firearms from wherever I could find them, break them down and sell them as individual parts. HKG3, AK, AR parts kits were my bread & butter, I’d sell on GunBroker and any gun show in about 150 miles …

When we got married we didn’t have a lot of money but we lived within our means. I also did things without my wife’s knowledge or permission with my “gun money” … once when our daughter was still crawling I had new carpet installed instead of having it cleaned while she had gone to visit her folks for a week … when we got engaged the ring I got her only had a 1/4 karat diamond and when our daughter was born, she had to have her rings cut off because her fingers had swollen so much. After our daughter was born we took her rings to be re-sized, Larry (the jeweler) said he have it ready in a week. Unbeknownst to her I’d been talking to a Larry and had him re-size the stone with a 1.25 karat diamond … I left it on her desk and when she got home I just told her her it was on her desk … I got a lot of mileage out of that one!

Several times over the years I surprised her with my “gun money” … another time while she was visiting her parents my best friend & I framed, put in the electrical & sheet rock in our unfinished basement.
Every time she was not just surprised, she was thrilled and never questioned my guns or gun money.

I’m getting there myself. I still enjoy gun stores but unless there is something neat that catches my eye on the used rack, I don’t pay much attention to new guns. I have most of the shooting bases covered a few times over. I just need more time and ammo.

Yeah. I have been at that point at least a dozen different times. But....something still showed up. I am at that point now. Wonder what will show up this time.

I am pretty well past it.
I don't know of anything that will improve my IDPA & USPSA scores, not even a $7000 Sand Viper which is reported to be a real working version of the next John Wick movie prop.
I am appalled by the return rate on name brand guns. "Good customer service," my A$$.
I might consider one of the current crop of higher capacity hideout guns, like a Ruger Max 9 vs my present LC9s. But the present gun Just Works, see above.

I'm at that point now, I don't foresee any new guns coming into my collection... at least not any time soon. I'm definitely a shooter more than a collector, though I still have a few fun classics like a PPK and Model 29.

I still enjoy looking at all the different guns at the gun store, and will sometimes try renting one just for fun at the indoor range... but I have no personal desire to own any more.

At this point in life there is nothing I "need". My number of days afield are lower, and I have self protection covered.

I have many wants though if for no other reason than I think they are cool, I would like to reload for them, or as an option for hunting or defense. My wants really mess me up sometimes :)

If it ever stops, check my pulse.
I’ve slowed down considerably over the past 2 years due to prices but recently sold three firearms I lost interest in, and made good money. But then dropped it all on a new firearm, and didn’t regret it cause less than a month later that same manufacturer announced a price hike. My storage space, which isn’t paultry, is at max capacity so if something new/different comes in, something old has to come out.

I don't really have a list at this point, and no firearm want that keeps poking me. Sure, if someone gave me a wad of cash and said go down to the LGS and don't come back for dinner unless you have a gun with you, I could come up with something. Another older J/K/N frame. A higher end .22. A Sharps. A synthetic stocked bolt action for deer hunting in inclement weather. An LC Smith. Plus a few others. But none land in the need category, and none have made it to the want category. Shooting dollars seem to be going more towards upgrading scopes and other optics these days.

I am down to the last 3 or 4 guns i want for my collection.Newyork state makes it very hard to collect guns any more ,so i am going to slow down .

I haven't bought a gun in four years. I am definitely not a collector.

All the money I would normally spend on new guns is going into ammunition.

I'd rather have fewer guns and know that I have more magazines than I will ever need for what I have than to keep chasing the next "latest greatest".

After accumulating over 200 firearms and getting old, my collections were drastically reduced to about 35 over two years. Need to update the data base to reflect some recent sales and a couple purchases.

The latest super compact whatever with shake awake optical……… No. If you like it then I think that’s wonderful.
I’ve bought some black powder shooters recently but I’m fully stocked on what I like.
I’ll always be a sucker for a restoration of an old shotgun, lever gun or pistol. Im watching one on an auction site now.

My last 2 CF rifles were an AR-10 and a Savage 110 Tactical in 6.5 CM. Also included a couple more .22RFs. I'm sated and have been for the last several years, but yet I keep buying what I may want at anytime, really. And that's without selling anything. I really should sell something, but have sold only two guns in my life. I do have a few that would fetch good money that I simply don't use anymore. What the hell is wrong with me?

Yes, apparently.

Due to my enjoyment (and the looks/character) of my rifles, handguns recently lost most of their appeal.

I sold most of the handguns to help finance both rifles and a Heap of .308 ammo.

Because my lastest two rifles (PTR-91s) have nice aperture sights and the cool G3 look, no other rifles seem to be on the Horizon.

This could be the first time.
