ever wore out any spring in a gun?

the glock would not function without changing those springs? ftf? fte? at what round count did the glock fail? glock model?

 

If you have not worn out a spring you don't shoot enough.

 

I've broken a couple of springs, namely trigger bar springs in two SIGs and a slide lock retention spring in a Glock. Both disabled the guns. The SIGs' triggers, no longer connected to anything, flopped back and forth and could not be pulled (unless the gun was held upside down), the Glock's slide flew off the frame, with the barrel and recoil spring still attached, and landed in the dirt.

Finally realized the factory recommended spring exhibits coil bind on recoil.
I just cut down a GM spring to the size that won't bind. No more problems.

I had an actual USGI 1911 magazine wear out on me but I have no idea how old it was when I got it or how it was treated before I had it.

 

I had the trigger safety spring inside a glock trigger break. not wear out but broke.
it was an after market ZEV trigger and the trigger had almost 30,000 rounds thought it when it broke.

iv also had the firing pin spring break on a ruger mkiii 22/45


both gun could have still functioned just fine tho.

After ~2,500 rounds of full power reloads the gun started miss-feeding form the McCormick style 8 round mags.

By replacing the factory recoil spring with a Wolfe extra power recoil spring, the gun returned to flawless operation.

 

I recently broke the trigger spring on my one Glock 17. That was at the 89,000 round point, and the gun was still working with it broke, as long as you held the trigger for reset.

The only other springs I really had trouble with, was the RSA with my Kimber Ultra Carry. It seemed to need replacement every 250 rounds or so, and the gun never really worked right with the new assemblies installed, but it did run a little better.

I change the RSA's on my Glocks I shoot regularly twice a year. Theyre cheap enough, so why not.

I guess Ive been pretty lucky over the years with breakages of any type. The only ones I remember are the Glock spring, an M1A firing pin, the roller retainer plate on my MP5. All were high round count guns, and the Glock and M1A also had a very high dryfire round count.

I did have two guns fail due to, or related to, ammo. An M1 that slamfired, and a SWD M11/9mm SMG that had its top half start to come apart due to hot SMG ammo.

Considering how many rounds I usually fire a year (and that doesnt include dry fire, which is multitudes higher than my live round count), and how many over my lifetime, thats a pretty good record I think.

 

I've had several springs fail. At least three hammer springs on Winchester lever action rifles broke, two were model 92 guns.

 

Wore out the hand on a S&W M-19 back when I practiced a lot. Springs were fine though.
