Do you guys think that prices on "Assault type weapons" will be going down in a few months? Or will they stay high or even get worse? I'm trying to decide if I need to pick up the rifles while I still can.

Thanks

I dont know about out in Washington but in Pennsylvania its not coming down anytime soon by the looks of it at the shows and gunstores. I saw a gunstore sell a kel-tec su2000 for $600+. I would say EBR have gone up 200-400 since Nov 08 depending on make and model. Ammo is nuts too. My local Wal-Mart was empty then got filled up some two weeks ago and today I was in to get some 308 and its empty again except for some 22's and a box of 40S&W. I would say get prioritize and get guns, mags and ammo in that order. Harry Reid might change his mind and put gun control to the forefront by Summer. Good Luck!

I think they'll stay high for a while, and gradually trend down when/if two things happen:

1. Obama continues to do nothing about guns (big if, but there's a certain logic to the idea that he will make a new AWB a second-term thing)

2. The recession continues to bite. If this happens, prices will fall as people need to get rid of their toys.

If no gun ban emerges from under a rock somewhere and makes it's way out of committee this year, I would expect prices to go back down. IMO, if the dems attempt a ban, they'll either do it this year or in 2011. 2010 and 2012 are election years and they'll be hesitant to try it then.

You two guys are among the few who describe on gun forums the simple fact that Professional Politicians do nothing, without constantly evaluating how it will look in elections down the road.

So many people who panic right now don't seem to realize that our new President is reportedly very astute politically.
Otherwise, he would still reside in Chicago, and he knows the cost of anti-gun ranting to former candidates such as Al Gore, and some people in the House years ago.
Will people who pay any seller's price for a gun or ammo right now be willing to pay the same prices in a year if millions of more jobs are then at risk?
If this scenario takes place with so many more jobs at risk, would there likely be fewer House Democrats available to later vote for ridiculous gun/ammo legislation? This subject is still new to me. Don't get me wrong, this could be a terrible price to pay to keep things like they are.
Therefore, what would you guys anticipate?

You saw a Kel-Tec Sub2000? I may have to take a trip up to Pennsylvania! LOL Seriously those are hard to find.

My view is - if you have the firearms and ammo that you think you need, then stay put. If not, then you should get the minimum that you need while you can. Politically astute or not, there has already begun a rollback of the policies of the last 8 years and one of those was the sunsetting of the Assault Weapons Ban.

Hey and our "panic buying" is stimulating the economy - so it's win-win as I see it.

There are a lot of variables that affect firearm prices and I'll try to cover a few of them. Remember, this is just my opinion. Nothing is written in stone here. (Well, except maybe the stone in my head.)

I think a lot of economic arm twisting will be required to bring gun prices back down to what we consider reasonable again. Look, if you were getting a HUGE profit off of firearms sales would you want to lower your prices? HELL NO!
Look at gas prices as an example. The Arabs were quite happy with $4.00 a gallon gas. What happened when it went to $1.60 a gallon? They screamed bloody murder and started lowering output to get those prices inflated again.
It will take a serious economic downturn to lower gun prices again. Prices will remain high as long as there is at least a steady demand for the product. If your stuff was selling at inflated prices, what is your incentive to lower those inflated prices if the stuff keeps selling?

And, we must also take into consideration the overall cost to get a gun from the Earth (raw materials) to your local outlet. Prices all along that chain effect what we pay. If you look around, you'll see EVERYTHING seems to cost more nowadays. Gun prices are just following suit. Panic buying just accelerated that price increase to hyper-inflation levels.

Now, we have to look at the regime change that recently occurred here in the U.S.
You see what happened there.
Please make no mistake about it, our current regime wants you and me defenseless. They want power. ALL of the power. They want sheep with no ability to question their authority or act on wrongdoing. They want absolute control over every aspect of your life. This is why panic buying of firearms shot off like a rocket. "Get it before it's gone."
(The real question is, how many of those panic buyers will line-up to turn in their guns when they are deemed illegal?)

These are just factors I can think of off the top-o-me-head. I'm sure I missed other factors and may have over-simplified things that deserve more in-depth explanation. Please forgive me if such is the case. I'm just a village idiot incapable of deep thought.

Price advice is very unreliable right now.

Prices are all over the place due to the panic buying.

If we make it through December without any serious legislative threat, I expect we will see prices stabilize and settle to near where they were in October 2008. The market could even go soft, as the panic-buyers and speculators disgorge themselves of their hastily-acquired equipment at a loss. If any unsavory legislation does get traction, we could very well see the $5,000 AR-15 before Christmas.

Right now, prices are what you find, and where you find them.

You would do well to analyze your needs, and buy good quality equipment that is actually available now. If you don't buy it, somebody else will buy it right out from under your nose.

With dems in power for the forseeable future, I don't think gun and ammo prices will drop to pre-Obama prices unless/until production ramps.

I think a ban will come. Either in the second term, or as an immediate response to a mass shooting. I don't know what the mean time between mass shootings is, but odds are decent something will happen in the next 4 years.

With the axe over our heads, we'll keep buying. Dems have sold more guns than all gun industry advertizing I'd wager. And they will continue to do so. The threat of a ban has two on the fence friends shopping guns now. Never would have happened if they could have purchased them "any time".

There are many dealers and manufacturers that aren't raising prices. There is one in my area that put away all his ARs last fall and didn't participate in the buying panic. He told me that he will soon begin to bring them back out for sale since "fewer customers want to be G.I. Joe". Find a dealer like that and buy a rifle now at a decent price. Avoid the panic fever associated with the online auctions and retail sites.

God bless him!

Hopefully he won't cave in to greed. It's damned difficult to do when you see the money being made by hyper-inflating prices. It takes real character to stave off the impulse to money monger when presented with a golden opportunity to do just that.
