Expensive States?

Do gun prices vary state to state? I live in California and a Remington SPS in 308 is $484 at one shop and over 500 in another. Are these prices what you guys back east are paying or is it just good ol' Kali? (prices do not include tax or DROS fee)

Oh yeah....

I know for a fact that guns are more expensive here in NJ than they are across the river in Pa. Since Pa. is much more gun-friendly, there are more shops and more competition. I've lived in both states and in NJ the shops are fewer and further between, and the dealers try to charge a premium for this, and since they know they have a "captive audience" for handgun purchases, they often get away with it. However, it's still legal for me to buy a long gun back in Pa., and so i do. The money i save on one or two long gun purchases makes up the difference on the money i lose on a new hand-cannon that i must purchase in state. I can't wait to move back to Pa. one day.

The weather is much better than Vermont
I have no problem buying all the guns I want (kinda)
I have a CCW and it was easy to get and I can renew it in a heart beat
I live within 15 miles of two good shooting ranges and 50 miles from a grand indoor range
I drink beer with the local LEOs at the Elks Lodge

See....I don't live in the south gang lands or the strange bay.....I live in the San Joaquin Valley.....red necks, west coast division. Earnhart was the king and liberals keep their heads real low around here.

If the weather is more important to you than you rights, then I guess California is an ideal location for you, and I would not advise leaving. But I would also prefer that Californians didnt complain about their limited rights. You made your choice, now you have to live with it.

It would be OK with me if not another Yankee moved to GA.

There's an inflation on firearms up here, for sure. The cost of importing handguns in particular puts an extra chunk of change on the ones in the used market. On the plus side, though, there are a lot of arms in circulation per person.

Hand guns are significantly more expensive in states with extra-draconian leftist extremist so-called "gun control" laws. I believe that's largely a matter of supply and demand.

Now let me make one thing very clear. I would be happy to leave California. However, tomorrow is my 16th birthday, so I am a tad bit young to leave. Some of us just don't have a choice. Heck, some of us do and people like jer1949 just have more patience than I do and I respect that. But as for me, I'd like to move to another state.

I stated before that here in Oregon we pay a 10% mark-up on all firearms. If it costs the dealer $500 before shipping from the distributor then it costs us $575. That is a $50 mark-up (10%) and a $25 shipping charge. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

There is not any volume gun dealers in Houston, so what I could buy in Ma was cheaper than what I can buy in Htown. Go figure

Chipperman is right MrTwigg. Just because a firearm is not on the list you can still purchase it if it was in state prior to the ban and if someone moves to MA from out of state and then decides to sell a handgun that is not on the roster.

Hence the reason that handguns that come up for sale that are not on the list demand a premium price.

When I find I want something, I price it out on the internet first and then check the local shops. My state doesn't have a sales tax so usually the prices in the shops is fairly competetive to that on-line as shipping and transfer fees are added.

I live here in California and not by choice. I'm stationed here. I have also been stationed in Oregon, Washington, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Virginia, Tennesee and Maryland. California is not that bad for gun rights. As a matter of fact when it comes to defending yourself with deadly force the state tends to be very pro gun. CCW, with the exception of the counties around the Bay Area and LA, is also normally a matter of paying your fees and taking the class. Having lived here I can find a lot of positive things to say about California and the natives. You may have the choice of basing where you live just on how gun friendly a state is but many people don't have that luxury. I think that a lot of residents here genuinely love the state and would rather stay and try to change things, then just move. Have you ever lived here or do you base your statements on second hand knowledge?

To finally get back on topic, guns are more expensive here. In Oregon and Washington I paid a good deal less, but part of that may have been due to the fact that there are only 2 gunshops and 2 stores that sell guns in a 100 mile range where I live now.

Second hand knowledge. There is no way I would consider living in California. Glad you like it though. I assume you don't bitch about the gun laws there.

Aren't your senators Boxer and Feinstein? That tells me all I need to know about California, and the majority of its residents.

dm1333, unfortunately you will find alot of people that have hard fast opinions of things which they have no actual experience or true knowledge. I like to call them the "Rush contingency". They are the kind of person that thinks "If Rush said it then it must be true" or "If Oprah said it..." and so on...regardless of the fact that Rush would not know a fact if it bit him on his oxycontin soaked hiney.

I'm in Nevada - very gun friendly you would think - but VERY expensive compared to MN or SD (other places I've lived)

More 'variety' to be sure - midwestern gun stores tend to carry more 'hunting' stock - but prices are definately higher.

perhaps it has to do with it's proximity to California....

The real issue here

......is gun costs in my area. My neighbor is the only FFL in town and he sells to me for 10% above cost. Now, how HIS prices are (the price he pays), I have no real benchmark other than the cheapest prices I've seen on the internet. He always beats them.
