I've carried concealed for the last 15 years or so in 2 different states, so the notion of carrying is not new to me. What I have never done is to carry extra mags/ammo/speed strips while carrying concealed. In fact, I sit here in a nail salon with a Sig P238 in pocket with just a full mag and one in the chamber.

Anyone else carry only the weapon filled to capacity, or am I alone?

Typically it has been one extra mag or one speed strip to go along with my gun.

Most of the time I'm carrying a spare mag. I don't really have an excuse for the times I don't. It's so easy to carry, I should have one 100% of the time.

I always carry a spare mag and white light. Can't think of the last time I didn't.

My trainers taught me that the extra mag isn't so much for the extra rounds as it is for dealing with malfunctions. Many (most) malfunctions are ammo/mag related.

Whats in the pistol. I can't see in a SD shooting having time to reload or changing a mag because of a problem. Just isn't enough time . 99% of time your spitting distance and its over in few seconds. As for the other 1% guess its time for fingernails or a good kick you know where.

When I wear belted slacks I keep a spare mag in a leather belt carrier with two slots. One slot for the mag and the other for a lithium battery, halogen flashlight.

When I’m in sweats or shorts I have a J-frame or G-27 in a pocket holster and no mag or speed-loaders. I'm hoping that the sweats or shorts make me a low priority target. :D

99 percent of the time I have for my 640-1 one speed strip in a Uncle Mikes pouch.

And for the Glock 26 I have one spare mag (it's the winter gun and soon it will be winter!)

Just the gun and what is in it may not be wrong.

But, having more is better.

I generally have two extra magazines.

I practice and compete with two spare mags on my belt, so I CARRY two spare mags on my belt. (Same with a white light.)

When the gun doesn't go bang for some reason, I swap mags. When I run out of ammo, I swap mags. I wouldn't feel terribly comfortable not having that option.

As noted, the spare mag can solve malfunctions.

Jeff Cooper remarked toward the end of his long life that he was aware of only a couple of times when reloading during a gunfight made a difference to the outcome.

Depending on what I am carrying. When I carry my 1911 or my Delta (both 8 rounds) I usually carry an extra mag. When I carry my Sig, Beretta, or Glock I only carry the 1 mag.

Just the five round in my Model 36. I feel that if they are close enough to pose that much of a threat to justify the use of a firearm, they’re to close for me to have time to reload anyway.

It’s not like I’m a LEO or likely to get into a lengthy shoot out.

Typically I do not carry an extra magazine with my CCW. However if I am going to Birmingham or Bessemer (both in the top 50 most violent cities), AL I will carry a spare magazine and/or a second firearm.

Most of the time I carry a J frame in my pocket with 1 reload on a speed strip.

When I do carry a semi-auto I also carry 1 reload but not because I feel I'll need more ammo but because if I get a jam or failure I can drop the magazine and I'll have a fresh one to replace it with.

I usually carry at least one extra magazine with my regular CCW pistols. They each hold 8 in the magazine; it isn't really a matter of the number of rounds available as it is about the ability to switch change magazines in the event of a malfunction

Most of the time, I only carry the mag's capacity. That means 15 rounds - not 15+1. When I prepare the gun for carry, I insert a full mag, rack the slide, and holster. I never remove the mag and top it off. Not sure why, just never seemed like a big deal.

It's rare that I carry a spare mag (maybe once a week or so). I don't have a mag carrier yet, so it just gets placed in my weak side pocket oriented exactly how it would if my pocket were a mag carrier - upside down, bullets toward my belt buckle.

If you can, do.

Me, I keep a speed strip in my pocket when I carry the .38, but have no really effective way to carry an extra with my CZ.

Not that I'm worried about 15 rounds being too few, but most problems are ammo or mag-related, and by far the quickest way to deal with those is to drop it and cram another one in.

~I carry two guns, a knife and extra ammunition for both guns wherever I go

Do you work in a field where violence is expected or do you live in an area with a lot of violent crime, or do you just really like packing heat wherever you go?

The latter is a fully legitimate reason, but I could never see myself carrying four pounds of steel to protect myself from what little crime I have a very low risk of encountering.

edit to add: Dude, and pepperspray? Are you in security or law enforcement? Again, I have zero issues with regular guys and girls arming themselves to the teeth, I just would never haul all that stuff around myself.

A spare magazine is small & light. It is much easier to conceal than a gun. If I am willing to take the time & effort to carry a gun. Why not have a magazine with me?

W/my singlestack SIG P290RS I always carry at least 2 spare 8rd mags, usually in a Recluse back pocket dual mag carrier.
