Bought a RRA LAR-8. It uses both FAL metric and UK L1A1 inch mags. I failed to do due diligence, assuming both types would be readily available.

NOT!

Locally all I can find is essentially trash. Believe it or not no mags are available from the RRA online store (at least not the last time I looked) and googling FAL Magazines for sale online only pops about 5 or so sites and they are either out of stock or look off/strange and not the kind of web vendor I'd buy from.

Any good web dealers that have the FAL or L1A1 mags in stock you've used and would recommend?

Unless they have changed it since I got mine, it won't take the L1A1 inch mags -- not enough space for the longer front tab of the L1A1 mags.

Generally the metric mags are easier to find and a bit less expensive when you do, but they seem to have got scarce all of a sudden now that RRA and Kel-Tec are starting to get guns on the market that use them.

I stocked up on FAL mags for my FAL and in anticipation of getting the LAR-8 and eventually the Kel-Tec well before it looked like Obama could win.

Try Century, SOG, Northridge, Sarco, and IOCorp (Royal Tiger imports now I think) if JG is out. Since these are all surplus dealers, if they are out, keep checking back periodically.

Three good options here:

The new in wrapper $20 mags are just that and would be my first choice. The price is pretty good considering. The refinished $18 mags may be a tight fit in the magwell as the paint is a bit thick.

Another option is at the site below. The "grade 2" mags here are not bad, in two orders they have varied considerably but none have been awful and some have been like new. I don't know how bad the grade 3 mags may be. I'd watch this page for the grade 2 mags:

As you've found, FAL mags are getting scarce so I would lay in your supply now. DSA may start making brand new ones at some point, but nothing is certain and I'll bet they aren't cheap if/when they do.

i bought some from keepshooting.com and they are really good. wait for the better condition ones to be in stock but all of my look great and function flawlessly.

by the way, congrats on the great rifle!

Thanks guys,

Copesdistributing, along with the whatacountry really looks like good sites to start with.

Appreciate the help and the comments.
