Fanny pack holster for yard work

Any suggestions for a fanny pack holster for a j Frame? I'd like to use one when working in the garden and doing yardwork. I like the idea of a fanny pack to help ensure I don't sweat all over my j frame. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm a little worried that would make bending over uncomfortable. I'd rather look like a fool in a fanny pack and be comfortable. Thanks for the suggestion though

I sweat right through my undershirt so I will definitely need something along the fanny pack line.

My "working around the place" gun isn't exactly a j-frame, but it's close to the same size. It's a little Taurus .32 H&R Magnum that I don't remember the model number. And it fits perfectly in the same size DeSantis pancake style belt holster that I carry my j-frame Smith in for my CCW when I'm in town.
I wear either gun (depending on where I am and what I'm doing) at 5:00 o-clock. It's handy there, it's somewhat protected, and it doesn't get in the way when I bend over, or even when I'm seated. Besides, I've carried a handgun there for more years than I care to remember.
As far as sweating on the gun goes, I've never had that problem as it's not touching my skin. But yeah, my little Taurus .32 H&R does get dusty when I'm working outside. So I check it over, blow the dust out of it, and wipe it down before I put it away when I come back inside.
There might be one huge difference in how you want to carry your j-frame and how I carry my .32 H&R though. That is, you might want to be sure your gun is concealed, and I don't really care whether or not mine is - particularly when I'm way out on the back part of our own place. We're a ways out of town, and open carry is legal here even if you're not on your own property. For that matter, this is a Constitutional Carry state anyway. So sometimes my "working around the place" gun is concealed, like when I'm wearing a long shirt or jacket, sometimes it's not. But if carrying your j-frame concealed while doing yard and garden work is important to you, whether it's through personal preference or it's illegal to do otherwise, a fanny pack of some kind might be just the ticket. There's a lot of them out there, even some built specifically for concealed carry - Cabela's has a few.
Edited to include just one more suggestion - I don't know how you feel about vests, but I have a couple of them specifically designed to carry a gun in either a right or left chest pocket. One of my concealed carry vests is an expensive leather one from Coronado Leather, the other is some kind of heavy duty cloth, and I bought it through the NRA.
The truth is though, neither vest works well for me. I just don't like the feel of my gun hanging in a chest pocket, particularly when I bend over. But who knows? You might find that's a great way to carry your j-frame while you're working outside.

Thanks for the suggestions. I live in the city, and while open carry is legal I prefer to not advertise I'm packing. The dust is definitely a concern when mowing for me. I have used my pocket holster but even manage to sweat through to that when it hits 90s with humidity.

I've been checking out fanny packs but most methods of securing the gun seem geared towards the shape of an auto.

I haven't worn a fanny pack in quite some time, but unless they are now made with gore-tex (which would make them quite pricey), I suspect kydex would keep your gun dryer.

If you currently have a fanny pack, take a 3x5 card and write on it with a Flair pen or non-permanent roller ball pen. Put the 3x5 card in your fanny pack, then mow your lawn. Let us know if you can still read the writing on the 3x5 card.

I suspect the fanny pack may be more comfortable than the kydex pocket holster, but sweat will go right through a fanny pack.

Edit to add: Heck, you be better off with an IWB kydex or even go with a leather OWB and still have better sweat protection than a fanny pack.

If I wear owb or iwb then I need an undershirt and concealment shirt. Just too hot. I'll report back with my success or failure once I've located a fanny pack. People jog and carry a gun in a fanny pack so I'm hopeful sweat won't be an issue.

I have the version in the middle, 5.11 Fanny Pack. The barrel is pointed into one of the wings and the grip centers in middle of the main pouch. Been using it on day hikes with a Ruger Sp101. The back side has two slots that you can thread over your belt for additional support.

The second one is what I keep the my HD pistol in beside the bed. Blackhawk fanny pack. Ruger P95 with a spare mag, flashlight, and travel wallet. Just an easy to grab kit if I need to leave the house in the middle of the night and don't want to alarm the neighbors.

You're WAY overthinking it. If I carry in the yard while mowing etc., I just put the Model 85 Taurus in my back pocket. An IWB holster that has a metal clip- forget the maker, but it secures the gun and it's mostly concealed under a t-shirt.

All jokes aside if you can't find a fanny pack, how about an ankle holster? Even if you're wearing shorts you can just pull your sock up over it.

Sean made the best suggestion thus far. The 5.11 is a good unit. It is a little too large, because it's intended to contain a number of everyday items in a separate compartment. So, in addition, I recommend watching the video on Youtube by nutnfancy:

He focuses on modding sports packs and makes some good points.

P.S. Although I'm never without a fanny pack, when working in the garden, I usually wear a shoulder rig. This allows me to lift heavy items easily, by bracing them against my belly. Of course, you can rotate the pack away, too.

The only thing in my back yard I have to be aware of is the ......heat/ sweat. Carrying a weapon is the last thing I`m concerned about. Central Fl does get....HOT!
Looks like some folks has a hostel back yard, so it seems a weapon is necessary. That being the case ,I`d go for a small cal say..25. Light in weight and small in frame. Easy to carry as well. Say a pocket or belt holster.
A little water/sweat not going to hurt it ....if you keep it clean . JMO.
