Fass-90

Has anyone heard of it? I was reading on another non-gun forum and someone from Switzerland mentioned that since they are a militia military they are all required to keep a FASS-90 plus ammo at home.

I googled it but couldn't find any relevant information, in english anyways. All I could find was a couple of pictures from google images.

The PE90 is an export semi auto version of the SIG 550 Assault rifle. This is just a version of that, I believe it is semi auto as well.

There is no such thing as a fass 90. likely the forum you got the information from was counterstrike related, as IIRC< they call the thing that looks like a stgw90 a fass 90 in the retail versions of CS.

It was just an off-topic part of a car forum. I usually take most of what I read on the internet with a grain of salt, but he claimed to be from Switzerland, be a part of their "military" and seemed to know what he was talking about. He was actually slightly complaining that he was required to go out and practice with it at least once a year.... but then again, it was the internet so maybe he was really some punk kid living in his parents basement.

The Sturmgewehr 90 is a 5.56mm Sig 550, full size assault rifle.

Very good sights, fold down bipod, folding stock, it's a bit heavy (I've handled the civvy version when they were imported a few years) excellent for prone, but I wouldn't want to shoot it offhand for long periods of time.

It's essentially a very well made Kalashnikov action if I remember right, and being a Sig is VERY well assembled.

I'd prefer the slightly shorter and lighter Sig 551 version,which is also in service I think with the Swiss.

They have to qualify every couple of months, even the ones here in the U.S at their embassy.

Andrew: YES a Fass 90 is a reality.
It's simply French for SturmGewehr 90 which translates into:
"Fusil d'Assaut 90" or "Assault Rifle 90".
