Fate says I must buy a 5.45 AK!

I don't know. Right now 5.45x39 is some of the cheapest rifle ammo around, and seems to be much easier to find (for plinking prices) than .223. In fact, the good deals on 5.45 ammo have me considering an AK in 5.45.

Source for brass case boxer primed 5.45.....and bulk bullets for reloading....?

None whatsoever.

If you shoot 5.45, you buy bulk MilSurp ammo or commercial Russian production (e.g. Wolf). <shrug> I'm OK with that - I can stash a handful of 1080 round spam cans and then buy commercial as I need it to shoot. That should give me a sufficient supply to last me the rest of my natural life.

It wasn't that long ago that 5.45 X 39 ammo was almost impossible to buy. We are now getting in the surplus ammo from countries that no longer use it. It is a nice caliber but I would not count on the long term availability of this caliber. Only the russians use it now !!!

I can think of a couple of other rounds that were/are exclusively used by the Russians; which surpluss is readily avalable for like the 7.62x54, and the 9x18Mak.

Im pleased with my Romy AK74, and havent had the first hint of trouble finding ammo online.

Yeah, there's plenty of cheap surplus, but there's plenty of wolf and silver bear (and golden tiger) around too.

They'll be banned before we run out of surplus anyhow...
