Father has passed. Going through the collection. Many memories.

One of the last things dad told me (literally days before his death when we made a weekend trip to see my folks - which was fortuitous) was that the Commander was sent to a business in Texas in 78. Until then I had been under the impression that he had sent it to a shop in California. So perhaps his Commander was also plated by Armoloy.

Sorry for your loss JC.
It ain't easy and you'll always miss him for sure... But you know that.

It's nice to have gifts like those passed on, so you always have that something tangible of his to use. They kinda help to remember the stories of the man.

My dad passed away 9/27/12 with my mom and me by his side. That was rough.

Sometimes I think about saying something contentious or offensive over holiday dinners to make it seem like old times!:D

It is always sad to lose one's parents, but doubly so when it is so unexpected and your dad being so young. I just turned 70 last month, but have no children to leave my many guns to. Please accept my sympathy. I have my dad's old 1910 Iver Johnson single shot 410 hanging on the wall of my den. He taught all 4 of us boys how to hunt squirrels with it. It is one of my most prized possessions. Take care of yourself. Tom

Saw the thing about keeping it in the box

I used to work at the LGS. Had a guy bring in a 1950's Colt that had never been out of the presentation box. Wanted to sell it.

We pulled it out of the box and the bottom side that was in contact with the velvet was totally rusted. Went from thousands of dollars to scrap in seconds.

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks to your father for protecting and serving us. Keep and cherish those pieces from him. Especially those with all the marks on them.
