I'm the opposite. I had a 6 figure income way back in another life. I still have a couple of custom rifles I had built and a pair of Swarovski binoculars. Now I get by on a disability check.

Well there you go. You can be a custom grip maker.

Those are nice. I looked at Altamont grips and they have some nice ones. I've used their grips and still have a set on my 1911. They are for Colt's tho and I don't know if they would be close enough to make work. I had a set of these on a Ruger Sngle Six.

These would be nice if I can get the eagle on the left grip and the right one smooth.

Also I used a drill press with a cross slide vice and I cheap end mill. Go slow, measure 3 times, cut once. Finish shaping with a rasp, file and hand sand.

Made two pair for my 1860 Armys out of walnut. Took me a lot of time.

Before Wa. changed a fish and game law a few years back Dave was able to cut and sell pre ban Elephant Ivory grips, of course I had to have a pair ‘ to say they where outstanding would be conservative.

My favorite for faux ivory is American Holly. Looks great on my Flattop Blackhawk and has a slightly aged appearance to it. Now the Bar-S Tru Ivory grips on the stainless Vaquero above it definitely have that "New Ivory" aspect about them.

    Holly is a great choice.
Not fake, just looks similar to Ivory.

I thought Holly was going to be acceptable replacement for ivory, but I haven't seen any Holly grips for a while.

That’s gonna be tough, Ivory is not only beautiful but very strong.
What I learned from buying Ivory is not very much except that there are layers/ growth visible from the center or heart cut are very fine to clear while mid cut has very nice definitive grain visible, work towards the outer/ live edge area this is called bark Ivory.
    Elephant
    Walrus
    Sea cow
    Mammoth
I can’t recall what Dave Boone told me about color iirc age was a factor.

I bought these many years ago. I know it's been a while because nephew was in Iraq with usmc at the time.
These were not expensive but were advertised as made with ivory chips.
They have aged and darkened but I was and am skeptical of the real ivory claim. 20160914_185912.jpg 20160914_185611.jpg
