I’ve been testing 22 ammo for my Henry rifle for a couple trips lately and it occurred I don’t do the same for my 22 pistols. Which 22 ammo do you find most accurate and most reliable in a 22 pistol? I have a semiautomatic and revolver both so the question applies to either action.

I have not tried any dedicated target ammo in either. There is some Federal Pistol Match available locally but it costs as much as 223 FMJ ammo.

A box of (50) 22's isn't going to put me in the poor house. Years ago I bought several (50) round boxes of different brand 22 ammo and tried them out on a scope mounted 22 bolt action on a bench rest. It wasn't the most expensive that was most accurate. For assassinating water filled beer cans and milk jugs it really doesn't matter. For a clean kill on a ground hog at 100 yards with a 22 it certainly does matter.

You may well be into something there. I’ll see if there is any left tomorrow. I have found Aguila adequately accurate to match my skill when shooting 22 bullseye targets. It wouldn’t hurt to see if I can do better with better ammo.

I shoot Eley Sport SV in High Standard and Colt autos.
Running low, so I have already tested and have quite a few cases of CCI SV that shoots just as good for my requirements.
My best accuracy in revolvers usually, but not always, comes with SV as well.

Federal Auto Match shoots well out of all my .22's. Some do a little better some other brands like CCI SV. But the Federal is your go to these days.

I mostly use HV ammo in all of my semi-auto 22lr pistols. They will generally be sub sonic out of a short handgun barrel anyway but have a little more power to cycle the action which is more important with pistols that use a reciprocating slide.

Like with any gun chambered in 22LR, try different types/brands of ammo to see what your gun likes the best.

I use only SV ammo in my High Standard Citation. It likes Remington .22 Target and Aguila 40 Grain lead SV. My revolvers gets whatever I have laying around.

Since about 2016 I have decided on .22 LR CCI Standard Velocity for paper punching and CCI MiniMag for woodswalking in my Ruger MkII ( bought Feb 1987).

For about 30 years I fired whatever I was buying and trying in my .22 rifles: CCI SV, Win T22, Rem GB, CCI MiniMag, CCI Stinger, Aguila 60 gr SSS, Fed 36gr HVHP, Fed Auto Match, etc

After breaking the bolt stop pivot off the bolt stop pin and realizing the recoil spring was weakened enough to eject and reload from the magazine with .22 Short, I ordered and installed new bolt stop and recoil spring assemblies about 2016.

Just about anything that'll chamber in a revolver will shoot as good as I'm capable. The Ruger semi-auto pistols in my house work best with HV Aguila and Federal and won't run reliably on SV of any kind. Accuracy is typically limited by me.

My .22s, both pistol and rifle, seem to be very reliable and capable of some great accuracy (provided I do my part),
with Wolf Match Target, CCI MiniMags, CCI Standard Velocity, and Federal Gold Medal.

I've also been using CCI standard, also both Mini Mag and Stinger. Just ordered six boxes of Norma Tac 22, heard good things about it, so I thought I'd give it a try.

My 22LR handguns will eat just about anything. When I'm done shooting up my stash of Rem Goldens, I'm not ever going back. Too many duds, inconsistent velocities, ruptured cases, and grungy as all getout. Fed blue box bulk is way better. I prefer to shoot HV in my handguns and save the SV for my rifles. Mostly I plink with the handguns and recreationally shoot siluetas 40 to 100m.

My auto doesn’t like Norma Tac 22 Target (1080 fps load). I’ve been shooting Aguila blue box 40 grain Super Extra for about a year now. Cycling can be iffy but it’s accurate. The best so far has been, wait for it, Winchester M22. It cycled a 500 round box with one failure and printed some of my highest scores on 25-yard and 50’ bullseye targets.

I have a decent variety. I’ll have to run through some. Blazer, MiniMag, Aguila SE HV, CCI SV, and Federal Automatch should get their turns. I run the Automatch in my Henry, as ironic as that is. I tried some 22 CB Shorts out of my revolver but I think I could have thrown them faster.

I'm a fan of CCI in LR

Hello.
I'm a fan of CCI in LRHP & Stingers.

I have a bunch of Winchester Wildcat that were given to me. If I'd bought them, I'd want my money back. Have to mash them into the cylinder of my H&R revolver. Extraction is a little rugged too. But they do go bang nearly all the time. Would not buy them unless I could measure them first.
