Noxx, Is your El Cheapo a LLama Max I? Cuz thats my HD pistol is. I polished then barrel throat myself to get it to take SXT's before I built my Franken1911. Just to keep up the springs, It's regular magazine is a GI 11 rounder loaded w/ 5 glaser safety slugs, and 1 +P FMJ, which is ok because it lives by the bed, and never gets carried.

Federal 230-gr Tactical Bonded or HST for full size/weight guns.

Taurus/Barnes Hex 185-grs, or Cor-Bon DPX for lightweight guns.

Wouldn't feel undergunned with any premium JHP.

Cor+Bon
165 gr JHP +P
1250 fps 573 ft. lbs.

The cost is about a buck a round. Pricey, but I didn't buy it for target practice. I shot 5 pins with it to test the gun with the ammo. Cycles great and is the hardest hitting bullet I've even used on pins. I loaded the remaining 15 rounds in two mags and plan to shoot that in about a year; and then start over again.

Hey Rioshooter, not to knock your selection or anything, but have you seen some of the data on how well that bullet line retains it's weight??? I've seen several sights that show Corbon JHP losing an average of 30-50% of it's weight when it enters into anything. Steve's pages is one of the first websites I can pull off the top of my head. Don't get me wrong, I own several boxes of Corbon JHP for the same reason, it's a hot load. But when I saw how it disinigrates so easily, I traded up for some HST's, Ranger T's, and Taurus Copper Hex's.

Realbigo,if your gun shoots the STX's well I'd stick with them and find a cheaper ammo that shoots to the same point of aim/point of impact for range use.My 1911 shoots 230 gr.Remington Golden Sabres best and I reload so the practice ammo is both cheap and regulated to the gun.YMMV.tom.

EHL,

Thanks for your opinion. I'll do some more research. To be honest, I really didn't check into this round. It was recommended to me by a friend.
