Favorite Defensive .380 ACP Load?

Let us know how the Lehigh works in your pistol.

Tried the LeHigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator in my Ruger LCP original the other day and it cycled fine. Only shot twenty rounds. It's pretty expensive.

I like the critical defense loads too.
I am still looking for a favorite. View attachment 759974
It was accurate and reliable until this^^^^
.....just thought y'all should know....

Just curious, what pistol did you use? Not saying it was the Pistol. Also did it later fire on a second strike? I am a avid pocketgunner, and fortunately for me, the gun I have chosen out of a number of them, has "double strike capability", something I believe all pockets guns should have.

Hate to see that, Hornady Critical Defense FTX is a great ammo. He performs well, has a lower felt recoil and very good accuracy. I see so much of HST, however I do not use it as I just do not get the accuracy I want out of my pocket guns.

It was my LCP.
After sufficient time had lapsed for a hang fire, I inspected the primer which I felt had a decent firing pin strike. I then chambered it again and struck it the second time. Again, no bang!
I took the picture and threw the cartridge as far as possible into the cornfield.

I had a feeling it was a LCP. This has happened before with them. It is alway's more noticeable with Hornady CD. I would recommend you look at all your brass casing to see if the firing pin is striking center. When you shot the misfire again, did the pin hit center? I would keep a good eye out for this, maybe shoot another box of ammo. I know of this happening before. Firing pin not hitting center and the owners sent the slide back to Ruger. Just a suggestion.

Okay
That sounds reasonable. I shoot my lcp quite often. Not because it is my favorite, far from it. I shoot it often because I need constant verification that the lcp is worthy of edc.

I had one other failure with the lcp. It went off but failed to cycle the action. That was with Sig's new Defensive Hollow points.

Next time, take it apart to see if it was missing an anvil or priming compound or something like that

Hmm mm
Now I have another reason to shoot my lcp. To check my primer strikes.
Thanks for the heads-up........ First I heard of it.

Farmer, did you have a chance to look at all the Pics from the link? Especially the pics of the Firing pin alignment, center or off center? The OP did a very good job with the Pics. I have owned 4 lcp's, (no longer shoot them). I did however check out the one I do own and the firing pin was perfectly aligned.
If it is correctly aligned then maybe a call to Hornady would be worth it. Some say their Ammo has hard primers. I know a pocket gun shooter that had problems with their training ammo and discovered big discrepancies with the Over all length in some of the ammo. I have a feeling in you case, it was the ammo and not the gun. I would call Hornady and report it. Ask if hard primer strikes have been reported.
In training ammo not such a big deal, but a Defense load is not acceptable.
By the way, you mentioned you shoot your LCP often but not your favorite. Might want to think about a Pico down the line. Very MILD shooter and a pocket gun that is fun to shoot. I enjoy shooting pocket guns and it is my favorite. JMO.

I read the entire link, but the pics wouldn't load.
Very interesting information.
I hadn't heard of the issues until this thread.
I trust my lcp to the point of leaving my .45 at home on our frequent road trips. However, I must find out about my gun. Maybe shoot some this evening.

I may have said that I "didn't like" shooting my lcp. That's not really true. What I do like is that it isn't my favorite gun.... but more a tool to use (something CraigC enlightened me to). If it ends up at the bottom of a river, then no tears will be shed.

These.......
