I'm a college student living in an apartment, so reloading isn't really an option for me at this point. I do have a rifle with great out-of-box accuracy, however, and am looking for good factory loads to take advantage of it. I've heard Federal's 168gr Gold Medal match ammo is good. Anything else?

Black Hills would be the other that comes to mind.

Any of the 168gr match loads are accurate but the Federal is the Gold standard. Most .308 ammo period is usually pretty accurate.

Federal Gold Match .308 with the 168gr BTHP, also try the same load in Black Hills.

Additionally I would try the Black Hills with the 175gr BTHP. My SSG loves the 175gr Matchking. Loves it. 1/2 minute of angle for five shots when I can do my part.

The Prvi match shoots very good out of my 700 SPS Tactical. I haven't tried any FGM yet but Prvi is only $14/box around here compared to I think $28 or so for FGM.

My SPS Tactical and FN PBR XP are both shooting sub moa with GM308M2 Federal Gold Medal 175gr loads. I have some GM308M (168) I'll have to try out.

It would help if you would tell us what kind of rifle it is, and what kind of targets and distances you shoot.

You CAN spend MORE for ammo than you need to.

If you are shooting deer at 100 yards, there is not one commercial load that will disappoint you.

Does anyone use match ammo for a .308 out of a box anymore?

    Haha.

Seriously though the Federal Gold Medal and Blackhills will serve you really well. Find out if your gun likes 168gr or 175gr. The folks at Perry seem to be going with a slightly heavier round in the military gun competition. Not sure if thats because of wind doping or if it has something to do with their twist rate of their barrels..... to each their own. I'd start with 168gr and see how that patterns first.

    :)

For an accurate .308 on a college budget I really don't think you'll be able to beat a Savage 10FP.

Use the Federal 168's from 0-600 yards, the Federal 175's out to 1K. The 168's go subsonic about 850-900 yards and get a knocked out of kilter during flight beyond that.

Prvi uses Sierra bullets IIRC so they may shoot great as well.
