Favorite powder/charge for 150-165gr 30-06

I sould have grabed a pound of 4064 while I was across the bay, but I do have RL19 which is supposed to be really good for the 150gr bullets. Nosler lists RL19 to be the most accurate powder they tested with 150s, and amongst the fastest too. I have some 150 Accutips, I don't know if they will top what I have done with 165gr SGKs but if they do I won't be afraid to use them on these smallish South Alabama/Florida deer, I could drive 125s through these tiny 120-160lbs things we have here. I am not griping though, we get high limits and they are easy to drag out of the woods.
Like I said above, I really like H4350 but IMR4064 is known to be a very accurate powder in the 30-06. You will be happy with the results from both. (and 4895 or AA2495 or AA2520) All are also good for loading ammo used in the M1 Garand except for 4350...

Kachok,

While you can use RL22 with light .30 caliber bullets like the 168's, RL22 doesn't really begin to shine until you get up to 180gr bullets. With the light bullets you will do better with a 4350 burn rate powder. Just MHO.

Mind you I am new to 06 loading but Nosler does list RL22 as the fastest powder for the 165gr, I think you are right, that is an awful slow burning powder to be using with a 165 especaly in a 22" tube, but it is supposed to be the fastest so I am going to give it a try, mind you I don't need 3k fps with that heavy a bullet, but then again I really don't even need regular 30-06 power around here either. I just want it :D Who knows mabey my buddie in Colorado might get enough time off next season to take me on an elk hunt, I stay ready just in case. I see the 06 as being a massive overkill on deer, my little sissy kicker 6.5x55 puts them down like God smacked them with a sledgehammer.

Kachok,

I have no idea where you are getting that load data from. Most load manuals don't list RL22 for 165gr bullets in .30-06, as it's just too slow. Here is Nosler's online load data, and as you can see, RL22 (or any other powder that slow) is not shown.

Get the Nosler #6 manual, it lists it there.
59gr 2812fps 107% load
61gr 2907fps 110% load
63gr 3002fps 114% load
Sure it is slow burning but with compressed loads like that it is sure to get something moving hella fast :D
It will supprise you but RL22 is also a top powder for my 6.5x55...go figure.
With that much slow burning powder in a 22" tube I am going to double up my hearing protection, I would imagine that would have quite the muzzle blast. If I want mild manners I'll shoot my Sweed, it sounds like a 22mag and kicks like a 243.

Doesn't surprise me at all. The 6.5x55 is a slightly overbore cartridge, and I use RL22 in my 6.5x55 with the heavy for caliber 139-142gr bullets. Would I use it for a 100gr bullet? No, a faster powder would be better suited. That's the point I'm trying to get across to you. I use RL22 in my .30-06, but it's with 190gr Sierra MatchKings.
