Favorite Rifle...and WHY?

For me a toss up between any of my levers or my M1A's.

.350 Rem Mag Model 7 from the Remington custom shop. Light, handy, powerful.

I have that rifle with a Swarovski 1.25-4X in Warne QD mounts. I sighted the scope in for Nosler 225 partitions and the irons in for 250 partitions. It’s an amazingly accurate little rifle.

My favorite has to be my Ballard made 1885 Low-Wall in .22RF. 30” Douglass air- gauged barrel, double set triggers, exhibition grade wood with hand checkering:

Favorite Rifle and Why

Remington 788: 243, Paid $180.00 about 30 yrs ago, killed many deer with one shot, out shoot "experts and people with more money than brains" at range. Tasco fixed 4X came with it, never have had to move more than a click or two from one year to next, 3 rounds at 100 yds can be covered with a quarter.

True, the accurate rifle is always a pleasure to shoot. It seems I migrated to my T/C Encore in 7/08 for the last of my hunting here in Ga. It fits well, too. I pick it.

I can see why.

At the moment I have been enjoying a MAS 49/56 in 7.5 French that I reload for, what I have seen so far impresses me for a military gun. Waiting to get home from deployment to shoot some steel, always get some curious people at the range when I shoot it cuz it " sounds different" as one guy told me. My favorite civilian gun would be my dads Mod 43 in .218 Bee, that was his varmint gun on the farm years ago for fox, chucks, hawks, and whatever else that was considered a varmint at that time. Also the first caliber I reloaded for, now I reload for a dozen.

I have to say my favorite is my Mosin PU sniper. The gun was an ex sniper that I put an original scope and mount back on. I did some accuracy tweaks and the gun shoots absolutely amazing. It's my favorite because it's almost boring to shoot, no matter what I am shooting at, it gets hit. It's a blast to go to the range and see a lowly Mosin outshooting Rem-chester-by's. When people see what it does, their reaction is absolutely priceless. Everyone tends to think that because a Mosin is cheap that they are pure junk. Here's a pic of the rifle and what it does. The target was from my last set of loads for testing so I was going for grouping not sighting in with the new load.

I would have to say my savage model 12 bgtv 22-250 is my favorite, the scope is a vortex viper 6-20x44. This is definately the most accurate rifle I own.

I enjoyed trying to make this pick. It took some doing on my part. I don't get around that well anymore, don't get to hunt much. So light, quick, very accurate and easy on me. My Remington 600 that I bought in 1979 as a .222 Rem along with a second copy in .308. This one was punched to .223 Rem in 1980. With a few minor upgrades over the years (aluminum trigger guard floor plate, bedding and floated barrel) and several sights and scopes.
Here it is:

Model 99/.300 Savage

This was a gift from a friend who's grandfather passed on and he didn't want to sell it to a stranger, I offered to pay, but since I was his best man years earlier
he wanted me to have it, and pass it down to my son when the time came.

My favorite is the Enfield 2A1, the Ishapore 7.62 NATO version of the SMLE. I like the milsurp guns, and the 2A1 lets me shoot the SMLE but with the more plentiful (and cheaper) 308 rounds. I love the smooth bolt action. Definitely not a tack driver, but if WWI rolls around again, short of having a Maxim, I'm all set.

im not a big ruger bolt fan and usually prefer remington 700s but my favorite rifle is probaly my 264 mag hawkeye. Its a good shooter and every deer ive ever shot with it has died about instantly or at least within sight. I had my buddy who is a stock maker dress it up a bit by putting a black forearm tip and black pachmyr pad on it and refinishing it in oil. Made it so good looking i sent him my 7mag hawkeye to do the same with. As a matter of fact he just called yesterday to say its done so ive got to get over there and pick it up.

My Christmas present this year is my new favorite. Its a Remington 40X with a Benchmark barrel, tuner, 2oz Jewell trigger and a Weaver T36 scope. It will put 5 shots in the same hole at 25 yards with Eley Sport and here's a group it shot at 50 yards using Eley yellow box.

It changes from time to time...but right now it is this little guy, I can hit stuff that I can hardly see....and it is every time. It is a very old Mauser .22 trainer. A few weeks ago I shot a brick of .22 with this rifle....do you have any idea how long it takes to fire 500 rounds in a single shot bolt rifle.

Mine is my Marlin 30-30 lever action. I really didn't think it would be anything special and it must have sat for three months in my safe before I got around to taking it out. I fell for it hard after that. It sports a 16.75" barrel, bigger (but not crazy) lever loop, and a 2.5X scout scope with back up XS sights. I just love the way it feels and looks.

I have a M-77 Ruger tang safety .270 that has a Canjar trigger, a bead blasted and blue finish, and sets in a stock that belonged for a short time to Jack O'Connor towards the end of his life. The stock originally came from Bill Ruger to O'Connor with a 7x57 in it. In shipping the stock was broken. Jay Frazier of Delta Juction, Alaska repaired it. The stock went through two owners before it wound up with me. I have had it about twenty years. I shoot it every deer season and few times during the fall.

My #1 favorite is my Norinco Paratrooper SKS. It's light, handy, reliable like crazy and, with a $30 Williams peep sight, I can quickly hit pretty much whatever I'd like.

My #2 is an old, beater Glenfield 60, for the same reasons as above (minus the peep sight, of course.)
