What's your favorite self loading rifle?

AR15!

' love it for its accuracy! I've never shot one (yet?) that's not accurate, even the low priced variety shoots pretty good.
But for rimfire, its my 10/22! (sorry, ' just have to mention her too! ).

This is easy. M1 Garand. Grew up watching WWII movies on Sundays. Too bad I can't get a Thompson here in Kali.

That's a tough one. I really like to shoot the alphabet soup guns: HK, AR, FAL, AK, SKS, etc.

Hard to pick just one, since they're all great for different reasons.

AR/M16. The huge number of aftermarket add-ons make this rifle the ultimate toy to play with.

The HK G3 is a sentimental favorite of mine, but I voted AR-15. The AR series of rifles is ergonomic, very accurate, low recoiling, cheap to shoot, modular, and easier to modify to the individual shooter's needs and preferences than just about any other rifle design. As far as availability of aftermarket parts goes, the AR is to rifles what the 1911 is to handguns.

The G3's a dream gun,

But picking for overall fun, gotta be the AR. Accurate, light and handy for iron sight ranges, a good CAR is tops. Wish I could buy one.

I have both an M1 and an M1A. I like the M1 but my favorite is the M1A. It has the same "real rifle" feel that the M1 has and is more accurate since it has been set up as a target rifle. I also like the 20 round mags better than the eight round en-bloc clips.

M14/ M1A. I feel it has the best of all battle rifle qualities (except light weight).

Favorite for historical and coolness? Garand

Favorite for playing? AR

Favorite for shooting bunches of ammo cheap? AK

Favorite for shooting even cheaper ammo? 597

Favorite for taking on an elk hunt? BAR

Overall, for the economy of getting a very reliable and accurate gun and bunches of cheap ammo that you could use for play, self defense or hunting up to 200 lb or so game in a pinch I'd go for the AR.

My 10/22 is far and above my favorite semi. If I get tired of shooting it I just take it apart and do another modification.

Even though I lust over the DSA FALS and the H&K G3s, my first love is the AK design. Cheap, simple, and always ready.

Always liked the original BAR.

Also the Bren.

But I will disqualify them both as select-fire...

My favorite is actually the long-recoil John Browning-designed Remington Model 8 or M-81 Woodsmaster. It's like nothing else. Funky. (Appearance.) Elegant. (Design and function.) Artistic machinery.

I'd like to choose the AK family for reliability, or the AR family for fun, but I'll choose the FAL family and have both.....and with a major caliber advantage to boot!
