I e-mailed a scan to them - no issues. All the major ammo vendors want a FOID card (Illinois) or driver's license before they ship ammo, powder or primers.

I e-mailed a scan of my CHP instead of my driver's license.

I've delt with them for years. Very reputable. No worries.

It should carry no more risk than using a credit card online.

I would just send them my 03C&R if you're worried about your license. You'll hit two birds with one stone that way.

I used my AF Retired ID card, with the SSN redacted. They need your name and DOB, you can blot out the rest.

I had to do the same thing with Century Intl. Arms for a replacement firing pin for an AK.

Aim even requires it FTF in the store. They make a copy of your ID, then keep it on file, so you only have to do it once.

    A little off topic....

On-line tobacco vendors also require a copy of a Driver's License, which they keep on file to verify your age. I wouldn't think twice, so long as the site is legit.. its standard practice for any age-restricted items.

Ammunitiontogo doesn't ask for your ID. Less hassle.

Not sending my D/L. CCW or anything thing I consider confidential to anyone.

I'll just pass on buying with them.

I sent my ID to AIM a while back. Now they have all my money. But they did give me a bunch of Polish 7.62x54r to lessen the sting.....

It's all good until the information you sent them becomes compromised. How do they check that the copy of the ID they receive is the person sending it?

Because they'll probably only mail it to the name & address on the ID.

Many of the security features of a DL only work in person. I could do an excellent job of changing the address on my DL in < 30 minutes.

Seems to me this is to cover Aimsurplus's legal liability? Perhaps another policy that feels good that isn't necessarily effective?

all they want is DOB and the drivers license is the easyest block out your license number.

AIM Surplus is good people. They won't screw you over. If you go there in person to buy a gun or ammo, they take your ID and make a photocopy and keep it on record.

No problem sending my ID to Aim. Probably shouldn't have, all my money seems to have followed the trail the ID left. rr2241tx
