Feed Problem with New Sig P232

Picked up my first Auto loader. Here's the problem, I loaded some gold dots into the mag, inserted the mag, cycled the slide, and bingo! First GD gets stuck in the feed ramp...

When I was loading the mags they felt really really stiff. So I unloaded them and reloaded them a couple times, and they get a little smoother.

In any event, does anyone have any suggestions here?

I haven't yet had a chance to take it to the range, and I fully expect to qualify any personal defense load before I use it, but this whole issue with the first round getting stuck, is it something to worry about?

Is it best to break it in with some fmj before expecting it to feed hollow points?

Any other ideas as to whether this is a problem or whether it's just something that will fix with breaking in?

P230/232s can be finnicky about ammo. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

I have never had a single feed error with hydrashoks, btw.

Great gun...a good choice. i'm sure you'll enjoy the Sig.

As it is your first auto loader I suggest you be sure you are releasing the slide fully and letting the spring do the work. Do not "ride" the slide back, into battery. When the slide is all the way to the rear,simply let it go.

Be sure to have the rails lubed well, especially if you have an alloy frame P232. What ever your favorite lube is will do.

Unfortunately some ammo may be problematic and you may have to weed them out. All my Sigs handle Gold Dots well.

Lastly, I suggest you clean the mags well, if you haven't already. Sometimes they come loaded with protectant goop.

Also, a break-in with FMJ cannot hurt. Run 500-1k rounds through it, and then try the spendy stuff.

Solid suggestions gentleman. I should say that the "riding" the slide suggestion might be the ticket. I'm at work now, so I'll have to give it a try later... but it did cycle and feed a round into the chamber a few times while I was struggling with it to get the mag to drop...

Didn't even think to clean the gun and lube it... I know it sounds crazy, but I have only one other gun, a revolver, and ofcourse that gun runs with minimal requirements.

Can you guys make a recommendation on the lubricant? It is a blued model, and my understanding is that the gun is all alloy, so this might be the problem here too...

The frame is alloy, the slide is steel. I use TW25b, a light grease, on the rails along with a drop of oil. On the rest of the gun I use regular gun oil or militec oil.

I use a product called Eezox on all my magazines, inside and out. It cleans well and then dries to a slick, lubricious coating that doesn't attract dirt. It is a good rust inhibitor too.

First things first.....get some Gun Scrubber and clean the pistol and magazines to remove all the factory oils. After that, lubercate the pistol according to the manual. Keep the magazines dry, or ONLY use a dry lube such as Tuf-Glide.

Once that's done, shoot at least a few hundred FMJ practice rounds through the pistol to break it in. After that, try out your defensive loads again. Pull the slide all the way to the rear, and then release so that the full force of the slide chambers the round. Direct blow back pistols do not have a canting barrel, so there is a little more resistance as the cartridge rides up the feed ramp while being chambered......malfunctions can occur if you don't let the slide return at full force. If that does not fix your problem, let us know.

Same Problem, Same SIG P232

I have the same issue. Though my SIG will missfeed about every third round. I think it's a problem due to shoddy polishing on the frame part of the feed ramp. I have to re-rack the slide to get it to feed. Mine is still a new gun. 150rds shot total. I have no answer but wanted to let you know I have a similar issue. (Yes I've used FMJ Round Nose)
