• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

Feedback on MAG80

I attended Mas' MAG80 class recently, and thought I'd provide some comments about this course here.

The session I attended was held at KR Training's facility near Austin, TX.

MAG40 is a pre-requisite for MAG80. The first half of MAG40 focuses on core handgun skills. This segment lasts two ten-hour days and concludes by shooting a police qualification course at normal speed.

The last two days of MAG40 are a classroom discussion of self-defense law. These two days are the most valuable firearm-related training I've ever attended.

MAG80 builds on MAG40. It focuses on three areas: 1) improving speed and accuracy with a handgun, 2) improving skills with a defensive long gun (either shotgun or carbine), and 3) hand-to-hand techniques for weapon retention.

The handgun portion did not try to provide comprehensive training; it laser-focused on drills that pushed my personal boundaries of speed and accuracy. And then documented improvement.

The long gun drills helped improve my barricade techniques and speed. And I learned a couple of finer points of shotgun use while wearing body armor.

The hand-to-hand instruction and practice were conducted in a way that was appropriate for new and older students. And I walked away with notes and other tools to help me practice these techniques at home.

Afterward, I spent some time with Karl Rehn to work on some handgun stuff. Amazing what he was able to teach me in a short time.

This was a great week of training...well worth the time and coin.
