Well hears the story, I just bought my first gun online as I'm more preferential to buying in-store where I can actually handle a gun. Nevertheless, I purchased a gun from Buds on July 13th and it arrived at my FFL on July 24th.
I'm not complaining about the shipping time, though I'm wondering how long it takes for an FFL to actually check in a gun and to call the owner to come pick it up.

Maybe I'm just over-reacting but I'm thinking the FFL should have called by now, right? I've never used this FFL before so I don't know if this is normal or not. Should I get the ball-rolling and contact them to get my gun?....or do I just need to be more patient?

Maybe they aren't going to call. You have the tracking info, and may be expected to know when it's in.

Give 'em a call, they may have just forgot to call or been too busy.

I took the advice and contacted the FFL, now I'm just waiting for a response back. Hopefully I'll have my gun before the weekend begins.

I'm with Bubbles, here. Just go get it. If they aren't quite ready for whatever reason, tell them you'll wait.

I have transfered a lot of guns. I always do the checking. Mostly because I just can't wait to get them. I have never had one call me.

The more I read in this forum the more I realize how good I've got it at the local, "Trading Post." My guy calls within minutes of getting them delivered.

I'm +1 for go get your stuff.

Update:
Well after contacting the FFL on Friday, yes Friday, I finally got a reply back today.:banghead: What was the exact reply: "We'll be returning on the 11th (saturday) and reopeneing on the 14th. We'll have to call you the 13th or 14th and set up an appointment."

I'm pissed had the FFL told me he wouldn't have been doing business, taking a vacation, or whatever else he's doing, I wouldn't have sent it to him in the first place. Now I have to wait untill August 13th and being a college student I have to go back to school around the 20th. That means I was given a royal screwjob as now I won't be able to take it on the vacation I was planning. :cuss:

When I see this guy I'm gonna rip him a new one, since he's charging me for keeping my gun nearly half a month when I want it now! Lousy FFL, and it's my first time ever using one so it's safe to say I'm soured now about using any FFL if this is the type of service I'm getting.

Overall while I'm angry, I'm just depressed since I only wanted my gun......is that so hard? :(

should take about 10 minutes for them to do all the paperwork and phone calls. I pick my guns up as soon as they arrive. I don't count on them to call me though cause he always forgets, I just show up and tell them what I ordered and that the tracking number says it's in, then they go in back find it and bring it out for me do some calls and we some paperwork out

Bummer...

Now you know what FFL not to use. Dang, that's a long wait. Well, good luck!

What exactly was the arrangement you agreed to before ordering?

I think the FFL certainly should have told you they were going to be out of town for an extended period of time, but if you called and said you were placing an order with Bud's on the 13th they may have been expecting it before the 24th.

We had an email relay going as it was my first time using this FFL(or any FFL in general) and we talked about his services/pricing. When I ordered the gun I notified him immediately so he very well knew to expect it. As for arrangements he said he'd call me when it was ready to pick up, but not telling me that he was going out of town or something untill August 11th. Had he notified me before hand I wouldn't be in this mess as I certainly wouldn't have used his services, but I suppose some people are just plain ignorant of other people.

It's safe to say I won't be using this FFL ever again, but unfortunately they have the best transfer prices in the Chicagoland.

In the meantime, hopefully your gun isn't sitting on his front porch in a cardboard box...

That's REALLY bad form, on the part of the FFL. Would never use them again.

FWIW, I feel you should post up the name of the place so others in your area don't make the same mistake. (AFTER ensuring the gun isn't sitting on his porch until he gets back lol!)

I hope that's not the situation, but that will definately be something I'll be questioning this FFL about when I see him.

You can bet money it is not sitting on a porch. Sounds like poor timing, nothing else. It happens.

I only bring it up, because I had FedEx leave a big cardboard box containing 20 semi-auto Romanian AK-47's on the front steps of my gun shop once when I was out to lunch.

I came back and damn near blew a gasket. Called them up and raised holy hell over "WHAT PART OF ADULT SIGNATURE REQUIRED CAN YOUR DRIVER NOT *READ*"

No question about it, I'd be finding me a new FFL. This one might be cheap, but he's also inconsiderate and rude. I'm sure that someone will have a few recommendations for better ones in your area, if not start a new thread asking for a few.

With respect to the firearm sitting out unattended, they are mandated by law to require a signature upon receipt, however...I once found a rifle (in box) leaning against my house (not even on the porch!). Needless to say I notified the shipper of the situation and let them know that it was received. This was an isolated incident, and my new UPS guy is much more considerate, but it does happen.

:)

Most of the ones I used don't call, you know when it was ordered and when it would be shipped when you ordered it. Call them to verify it arrived on the expected date.

Don't expect them to be wasting a lot of time calling you as, there is not a lot of profit in FFL transfers.
