File to knife

I'd have ground the teeth off before cutting the shape since they may look interesting they're an annoyance in use.
Thanks for your expert input.
The blade will be smoothed when I put the grind on, going to leave the teeth on the spine as a sort of jimping. This is the first knife I've attempted, so there is a learning curve. A neighbor stopped by when I was working on it and was interested, he had a box of about 100 old but clean files he brought me so I have a lot to screw up and learn on and I'm going to keep at it. All I really need is some sander belts, my belt sander takes a bit of an unusual size that I haven't found locally (can't remember the size), life gets so busy that it's been on the backburner for a while but I certainly plan to get it all figured out.

Got a pic of your sander?

Most folks find they have a easier time grinding their bevels in by annealing like you have and then taking off the file surface down to a flat billet at the time it is still "squarish" unless they're using a large wheel and high hollow or a slack belt. Belts on flat platens just seem to hate the "teeth". Got smacked in the forehead by a belt breaking trying to flat grind an annealed file bevel so I'm skittish. Let us know how it goes.

I use a 4.5" and 8" hand held grinder to get the teeth off. Then 2 different 6" wheels on mandrel on drill press at about 1000 rpm to smooth and shape. Then at an angle to the edge of one wheel to make the bevel. Polish on carburundium stone and diamond block till clean and bevel thin enough to sharpen. Took around 15 hours to complete the 14" one handle and all.

I used to have a Grizzly 6 by 48. It was a beast to say the least. I got some belts that I no longer need. I just rip them up to use for miscellaneous sandpaper. Message me and I'll send them to you if you'd like.

Yep, 6x48 - measured with a string. It's pathetic I didn't know that, but I'm sure when I was looking for the belts I looked at one I had and used it's measurements , I suppose it's an uncommon size and that's why I looked and didn't find them locally and forgot about it... Life's busy.

Awesome , thanks!

Finding belts is pretty haphazard locally for me too. And looking online is just as bad because I want to feel the belts and look at them and say wow look at that what that one might do
