Cross one off the wish list. IMG_0078.jpeg Best part was the price. My cousins house flooded during hurricane Helene so I drove over and picked up his substantial collection of firearms and knives to store while he is dealing with the fallout from the hurricane. I told him years ago if he ever got tired of looking at the 1006 ( he doesn’t shoot much anymore) we could make a deal. As a thanks for helping him out he gifted me his Smith. Been wanting one of these since my dad got one back in the early 90s.

Nice ... Bought a 4006 from a local box store that were police trades. The one I bought was issued (written on the box) to the Chief a few towns away. Got him to certify a letter saying it was his issued gun and never shot ( he liked his detective special ). Sold it with the letter for 3 times what I paid for it.

I don’t care for the Hogue grips. I had the FBI palm swell factory on mine. It was the adjustable factory rear sight model. I really liked it, but accuracy really wasn’t up to my needs so I sold it. My 10mm desires are now met by a Taylor’s&Co M1911 in 10mm. I replaced the fiber optic front sight with a Novak .180” white dot to match the rear sight. It allows me to lower the rear sight to get a POA/POI sight setting with a 198gr NOE cast RFN bullet at 1,200fps.

The 1006 is the superior 1006 platform but lacked/lacks the aftermarket support to refine it to its capabilities. A fitted Briley/Barsto barrel with the Briley bushing would make it a superlative handgun! But time has passed it by…

The great thing about working in a gun store is that you get to see stuff before it goes in the display case.
I snagged a 1006 that way, and many others.
