Does anyone know where I can get an A2 stock that is actually black? I have decided that the magpul stock just doesn't go with the triangular handguards but the A2 buttstock that came on the lower is a charcoal gray. I've done everything short of painting it to make it black, but when it dries it is still gray. I don't want to keep it dripping wet with oil or clp and have it on my face.

Now I remember why I don't visit the High Road very much. I had just about forgotten how much I like ARs with carry handles, triangular hand guards, and thin barrels! And now this thread!

My first AR was an early colt with no forward assist that I borrowed for like three years. Man I loved that rifle. I even gave it it's first cleaning.

I like where you guys are going with this.

KY, the best bet to get a black butt stock is to go to the next gun show. I have the grey and black butt stocks, and the grey is actually a bit more comfortable to me. The green furniture n my A2 is the same rougher texture of your grey stock. You can oil the stock and it will blend in color better, but may always be lighter.

I still have my Colt Model SP-1 purchased new in 1978. Even have the original triangular handguards that came with it, though for range use I prefer the round ones for more comfortable use. For me the 20" barrel is the best in regards to the overall feel and balance of the AR-15.

KY, Go with the GI A1 stock. The rifle will look much better.
You guy got me thinking... I am goona build an A1 as close to what I carried when I was a young soldier. Those were great rifles, sights that came standard from Colt, I loved the fact that I could take anything out at 300 to 400 meters.

For the ones wanting the original pencil A1 twist, with the right grain bullet wounds can be pretty devastating. Not good for hunting application.

and why is the "carrying handle" refered to as a carrying handle? I would of had the crap slapped out of me if I were to carry the rifle by that handle in boot.

KYam, look for a black color plastic dye, not a paint.

Stressed, the carrying handle was designed as carrying handle, but the US Military branches never allowed troops to use it as such.
