It has taken me close to 30k shells over the last 4 years 1 month and 6 days to get my first straight, but I have finally done it.

I have bad eyes and stayed away from shotguns for most of my life mostly because I was left eye dominant (among other eye issues) and right handed. When I started shooting I tried shooting right handed while using a small piece of tape on my left lens. After a few months of that not working very well, I decided to make the switch and learn to shoot left handed. It took a little while to come up to speed, but my scores were steadily increasing. I had an occasional 24, but could just never get it together. One day last year I was shooting with an eye doctor friend and he said it looked like I was having cross dominance issues and suggested I learn to shoot low gun. Learning to shoot this way took some adjustment and I learned that my 30" O/U was heavy and slow for me. I made the switch back to an auto loader and just kept plugging away until it all fell into place today.

I feel great and hope the next one doesn't take nearly so long to get.

:D

Congrats! The first one seems to take the longest, but the second one will come pretty quick! Now you have the confidence to do it again!

The first one took me just over 4 years. My second one was just under a month. Besides starting the day off with a straight, I finished with a 92. I am normally about an 80-85 shooter, but things just seem to be coming together.

Feeling pretty good about my shooting. Tomorrow morning will be some sporting clays fun.

Confirmation

The second straight is about as important as the first straight. It's sort of a confirmation that the first one was not just a fluke.

I shot skeet at a Winchester affiliated club and this was my "reward" for my first straight in 1974:

You are to be commended for you persistence. I've earned all 4 patches from Winchester and I wish you the same success. Keep us posted.....Doc

Thanks guys. I didn't get out to shoot sporting today. I wanted to see if I could do another straight in skeet. Wasn't happening for me today, but had a heck of a good time shooting some wobble. I used 12 extra shells on two rounds and hit with about half of them.

It was another fun day at the range.
