Finally left CA. Surprised to feel so relieved...

fjolnirsson,

I understand that Antioch is growing by leaps and bounds. I can remember driving through miles of open fields in Antioch, and lately somebody told me that those areas are now chock full of homes.

It's still one of the better areas for raising a family in the Bay Area, so they say.

BTW, I really enjoyed walking from the Black Diamond Mines through the hills to Clayton.

Well, I ruminate for fun, and especially when its about a thorn in my paw. I joined CRPA, GOA, NRA, JPFO. Actually someone on the old Firing Line sponsored me at the NRA awhile ago, and I"ve been a member since. These orgs are led by dedicated and great people, and I appreciate their existence. Joining them did nothing for me other than make me feel a little bit better that I wasn't actually writing or calling or faxing my elected representatives as much as I should have. And frankly, the cult of paranoia they promulgate so that donations keep flowing (some orgs are much worse than others at this), gets very old. Perhaps necessary, like getting slapped by the wife on the rare occasion as a reminder of duties neglected, but gets old.

Anyway, I don't blame the Kommiefornians. I blame people who have been trained to feel and not think. And from my perspective, many of those kinds of people came from out of state and either initiated or significantly participated in changing the state against my will and turning my culture into a true minority.

This is a culture war, among other things. But, pendulums swing...

And y'allr on my side, right?

So amen and pass the ammo!

Buckskinner, I should have been a little clearer in that my response was aimed more at those who think there should be a wall to keep me from moving to their state, wishing my current home would fall into the ocean, etc. Perhaps I was imagining things as I am not seeing so much of that in what I read tonight :) . Your eloquent comments were all too true, but you managed to get your point across without saying terrible things about the 34 million people who still live in CA.

I do wish that it could be possible to work to preserve and restore the right to keep and bear arms without getting into a culture war, but perhaps that is another discussion.

On your side? You bet. Glad you are happy in your new home.

John

"Ohio is the east version of Ca. I escaped years ago and felt the same way as buckskinner. "
That is the truth. Ohio is rapidly on it's way. Having lived there and having grown up there, I understand the pain of living in a state where a couple cities dictate the laws for everyone else. Although Ohio loves to elect Democrats just like the unions tell them to. In the part of the state I grew up in, they continue to have that union mentality even though there now isn't anywhere to work: the steel mills have been dead for years, the people just can't face that reality.
Leaving for greener pastures is no big deal. Some people on this thread act like they are having their right leg cut off or something. My ancestors left the British Isles for greener pastures centuries ago. After the American revolution, they moved to Ohio. My family was living in Ohio when it was the wild Frontier. They were living there for close to a century before the California gold rush. I spent my childhood taking for granted that I was going to follow my dad into the steel mills: everyone I was related to worked in a steel mill back several generations. But, that wasn't an option for me, so I left without batting an eye. Came to Las Vegas, having never been here before. Sold a 1911 for the gas money and left. I miss Ohio. I love to go back there and visit. I often think I would love to live there. But, it isn't any kind of a big deal. Change is good. Sometimes you do the same thing for so long that you don't realize that there is a big wide world out there to experience. The grass may very well be greaner on the other side of the fence. You will never know unless you check it out.

my response was aimed more at those who think there should be a wall to keep me from moving to their state,

Oh, don't worry, gunnies would be let in, the wall's just to slow the "bad" immigration.:p I feel for you, I lived in CA for 29 years. I know all Californians aren't bad, but the good ones are few and far between.

I hope to escape Illinois and make my way to Seattle. I wanna finish up my college there and attend grad school out there.
