I finally ordered my Garand from CMP. I am also making my Ruger 10/22 into a mini-me Garand (techsights and a sling).

Service grade SA. Went back and forth between SA and HRA, saw great examples of each, decided to go with the SA.

    Next stop...some .30-06 dies.

    Springfield M1

I went for a Springfield for my first Garand also.

Turned out much better than I thought. New Boyd's stock and the bore is bright and shiny. Shoots terrific also.

I might try and get an original wood HR sericve grade around January. Might even make the trip to the South Store. Although, I am afraid if I find an M1 Carbine I might buy that instead. :)

SA--- there is a certain panache to the non-SA M-1's---but when you think about the baseline of incredible quality and durability that the SA M-1's embody----and that you can purchase one for a small sum that doesn't come close to what the weapon is actually worth---you realize the glory of a thing built without eye to profit or hope of returns in gold---a purpose-built thing without compromise born of profit motive.

    Nice rifle!

Don't forget the VQ hammer/bolt release package on your 10/22!
