Deer Season opened saturday in western Washington, and due to wild fires and our continuing drought, 80-100% of state public lands are closed to hunting & camping, with the possibility of some closures lifting today (10/15/2012). Although no campfires will be allowed, only self contained lanterns and stoves allowed (no problem here) and in designated camp sites only. Yesterday we spoke to a Ranger who checked ID's and licenses did a general check, and gave up info on where to hunt (open areas). We have had spotty rain since last thursday, and it rained hard last night and is raining today, so that should raise some of the closures, but probably not all of them. Going back out today to hopefully set up camp for a 5 day hunt. Wish me luck!

So after 5 days of strenuous hunting in all kinds of weather, (monsoon rains, high winds, and beautiful sunny weather) from sea level to 2500 feet , nothing, nada, zip; didn't even see a doe, nothing! saw plenty of other hunters, also in the area due to fire hazards. "WTH"!!, so we will try a "hi power restricted area" with the muzzle loader (Hawken percussion, 50 cal) next weekend.
