Ok guys I always told myself I would get a 1911 one day but if I got one it would be at least 1,000 bucks or better. I couldn't make myself like the rock island's citadels regents and others I was considering a rem r1 for a brief moment but I got the chance to shoot one and it was a jamamatic so I passed on it anyways u happened to be at my favorite lgs and they had a Ruger 1911CMD which is what I was wanting size wise well I guess the stars lined up because it was my birthday the owner had a new one for 700 and I said no thanks after a quick look online I went to leave and he said "wait a minute son it's your birthday right" me "yes" him "ahh I see wait here" he comes back big smile and said we just got this one in its used but if he shot a box through it I would be surprised me how much him one time offer 500.00 out the door I said can I do layaway him yes now I'm super excited to say my first 1911 is a Ruger cmd and I love it took it out and she shot grteat 300 rounds went quick :D to top it off my good friend traded me a nib banchi leather hostler:D:D:D here is a quick pic

I hate to be the one to tell ya, but it won't be your last. They are like Lays Potato Chips, you can't have just one.lol
Outstanding choice, IMHO you can't find a better 1911 for that money.

Congrats. The Ruger 1911 really is a handsome pistol. That's a good deal.

Nice! I shot pistols for many years, but finally the 1911 bug bit me - no problems.

(carriage returns sure would make your story easier to read. They don't cost anything, either.)

I'm sorry about my lack of grammar guys I was just so excited to post about it.

Yea!
I ain't the worlds best typist or speller either.

But I have a Space Bar.
And an Enter key to break lines into paragraphs.

Makes things much easier to read on a lap-top!

Anyway, congrats on the 1911!
You are hooked now!

I'm not a semi-auto guy at all but 2 years ago when my son was going to sell his Springfield 1911A1 Gov't model I bought it instead of letting him sell it. Now 2 years later this "not a semi-auto guy" is looking for another 1911 and I'm fairly sure it will be a Ruger.

I think you picked a very good 1911 and you bought it when it's fairly new so the price is still fair. I see them raising in price fairly soon.

Congratulations on your first 1911. Took one of mine out last weekend to give my cousin an intro to shooting. 400 rounds or so later and I think he was contemplating what to sell so he could buy one. Watching a brand new shooter consistently hit his target and put 5 pieces of brass in the air at a time while doing it really lends some appreciation to a fantastic pistol.

Congrats! I have several 1911's but so far no Ruger and I'd like to have one. They just fit the hand like no other and have great triggers - that's why they shoot so good.

I got my first 1911 a couple years ago, under very similar circumstances.
My revolvers have been collecting dust since then. I am kicking myself for not getting the 1911 sooner......like two revolvers sooner.

congrats!

Congrats on your most excellent birthday present! At $500 it was one sweet deal. Enjoy.

One reason I shoot revolvers is picking up brass. Other than that, I think I'd shoot more 1911's than revolvers. They feel great in my hand, and who doesn't love a 1911's trigger.

I've got two 1911's, a plethora of holsters,and a bizzillion magazines.

I really like the Chip McCormick magazines. The 10 round magazines work flawlessly in both of my 1911's. 10+1 is a great carry option.

I've got some really long mags, for 15 rounds and more. They don't work reliably. Stay away. They're toys at best, an exercise in frustration at worst.

If you're right handed, I'd ditch that ambi safety. Easy enough to do. Will fit better in holsters, and less likely to break. Yea, it does happen on occasion.

I can remember the first 1911 I bought was a Sig Sauer black nitron finished beauty.

Now have 3 of em, one in black nitron, all stainless, and a TTT which combines the nitro frame and stainless slide.

Started to get real good with the TTT, it has a match grade barrel.

I was seeing rifling wear in the first black nitron that I bought. It was losing the rifling in the barrel from wear and tear of shooting. I replaced it with an ED BROWN barrel and bushing. It is now the most accurate of the 3 1911's I have.

I love the 1911's, I will never be able to shoot as good as the gun can shoot.

be safe.

Congrats on the Ruger, that's a heck of a deal. I recently picked up a Government sized Ruger for my first 1911 after convincing my wife that $650 brand new was a deal.:D I haven't shot it a ton yet, but it is a great shooter. Now, if we could only convince Ruger to make one in 10mm;)

Rock Island makes a Citadel Regent?

I own quite a few 1911's, My favorite is the Dan Wesson Razorback, and #2 is mt RIA, because both are worth what they cost, both are honest guns. No handgun with MIM should cost more than an RIA, in general, and the RIA I have is every bit as reliable as any of my 1911's. When I pay more than $400 I don't want to find any MIM in a 1911.

Congratulations, now you need to buy the full size and the six inch model.

Congratulations! My story is somewhat similar. I started shooting handguns in my early teens. I mostly preferred revolvers. In my late 40's I finally got around to buying a 1911. I am a cheapskate, and seeing the Turkish ones for $399 is what convinced me. It is one of my very favorite firearms. I have big hands and it fits them very well. And it is SO MUCH fun to shoot! I'm glad that you're enjoying yours, too.

A fun companion piece is a Ruger Blackhawk with two cylinders, one in 45LC and one in 45acp. My father in law thought I had lost my mind when I starting loading up a revolver with 45acp the other day. :)

Be very careful with 1911s. They get lonely in the safe and will want other 1911s around. You will get sick of hearing it whine and then you buy another one. Then another one.

Congrats on the SR1911 CMD nice features for the price point.
I've looked at several over this past summer considering a
Commander to go with my full size 1911. I ended up getting
a blued Colt.

Note: My gunsmith said he converted a SR1911 to have
an ambi thumb safety. He found the rear of the frame is
thicker ( perhaps cuz it's cast steel? ) & the pin was too
short He recalled STI also makes a thicker frame so he
ordered the STI ambi safety and it was long enough to
work.

wow, $500 otd for a Ruger 1911? Happy Birthday to you indeed. very nice!
