Since I have been getting more and more into guns and building up my collection of them. I knew I had to have a 1911, but since I’m a younging and as some of y’all older gents know. We have to be different and unique about things. So a .45 wouldn’t just do ( don’t worry, still gonna get one!) I had to get the next best thing; which was a .38 super. Now I’ve read on here before I sign up that that’s a bit of gangster and cartel round. So I figured I should respect that by getting a nickel RIA .38 super and seal the deal with some gold grips. It’s loads of fun to shoot, the grips are really thick and slightly counter the recoil of it. Shame we don’t see more pistols in .38 super.

Yes, 38 Super is a cool round. I have my share of 38 Super M1911s.

But M1911's in any cartridge is just plain cool. A 45 ACP M1911 is the iconic M1911 and in my opinion is a must in one's M1911 collection.

But other cartridges are great as well, from factory available cartridges to reload only cartridges. I have two M1911s chambered in 38/45 Clerke that are fun to shoot.

The 38 Super was Colt’s answer to the heavy metaled vehicles and body armor that defeated the 38 Specials (158 grain RN) carried by law enforcement of the day.

So, not so much gangster as untouchable.

That's a great looking pistola there! I love how absolutely ostentatious it is. And it's completely different from a field of tactical black everything. Awesome!

The .38 Super is a fun round in a 1911. People always get a kick out of shooting mine at the range. Lots of noise, big flash, little recoil. A crowd pleaser every time.

Good selection, every once in awhile you need a pimped out piece.
    These grips are real ivory!!

Looks like you started your 1911 collection with a pretty good BBQ gun. Looks nice.

My coworker( 57 years old)bought himself an older colt national match in awesome condition just before x Mas , against his wife’s and fathers objections.
Well x Mas morning there sat a box under the tree with his name on it??
WTH he thought, turns out his father had ordered him a brand new Dan Wesson Valor!
So now he’s got two amazing pistols.

My recent .38 Super [IMG] purchase below. Somewhat more subdued perhaps:

Congrats on you new .38 Super! Always liked having one just because it was kind of different and off the beaten path in terms of the more mainstream cartridges out there. It's also easy to convert to less expensive 9mm. ammo with just a complete barrel assembly and some 9mm. magazines. Maybe get some faux ivory or pearl grips just for those fancy BBQ occasions!

This my .38 Super: a Colt Lightweight Commander. I have a certain predilection for the shorter Commander length slide with my .38 Supers; don't know why, I just do!

I've posted it before. I'm a sucker for two-tone and Gold Cups, but I don't often see them in the same piece, especially not in a Super.

Now that's one Colt I would love to have as it has all of the bases covered (Gold Cup features, two-tone finish, and in .38 Super)!

Definitely hit the Trifecta with that gun!

CDNN had a couple of them in their Sunday auctions. I watched the first one sell one week while talking myself out of it (I already have 2 Springer Supers). When the next one came out in another auction, I bid just over what the first one brought and got it. I think it's a recent production with the fiber optic sight and it has a model number on the box. I just don't have any info on when or how many were made. Here is the data if they are out there:

Sometimes people forget the .38 Super is actually an an older cartridge than .45 ACP.
Today we would call it .38 ACP +P.
Ive always wanted a Colt 1902 (the original longslide) but a nice one is way out of my price range.
