Went out this morning with my Howa 1500 .308 loaded with 150 grain Nosler ballistic tips. Deer walked into the opening between two fields. Same spot my first deer walked out of last year. About 125 yards broadside. Hit her right in the shoulder. Turned the lungs into a ground up mess. Damage to the farside ribcage but I did not see an exit hole. Best part.......DRT! I feel bad when a deer runs even for a little bit. This one twitched four or five times and that was it. Quick humane kill. Very impressed with the results of the rifle and ammo.

I've killed a few deer with a ballistic tip. I've used a 140 grainers out of the .280 Rem and 150 grainers out of the .30-06. I've never had one make it out of their own shadow. Love em. I've learned to make sure the hit is behind the shoulder though, not in it. It makes a mess.

I tried to hit it behind the shoulder. But I hit my first deer in the shoulder too. That one was last year in the very same spot with a 200 grain .35.

Sorry, no pics. Wish I would have brought the camera to take pics of the vitals. Enough damage to end it in just a few seconds.

Those 150 NBT's are absolutely deadly on deer. I have been hunting with those with my .308 for quite a few years now with great results. I've shot deer from 30 yards out to 200 yards and I've always had an exit wound.

There was probably an exit wound from some part of the bullet. The opposite side of the ribcage had a crater in it the size of a walnut and a hole in the middle that I could stick my pinky in. I did not inspect the exterior of the deer on that side. She fell on the side that I shot her in. There was quite a large pool of blood under her. I only have 7 of these bullets left. I also have 150 grain SST and 165 grain Fusion I want to try out. The NBT are the most accurate but between the NBT and SST the difference is less than an inch bigger group with the SST at 200 yards.

Chains1240 way to go. Good oll NBT's get it done IF your ranges are on the shorter side Georga arms has a 125 gr nbt at 3000fps this is like a lighting strike on them too. I have several down with it.

Where are you that you can use a rifle this early? Bow season just started here.

Private land antlerless season is from September 16-20. I was hunting on a friends land in DMU 486. The youth hunt is coming up then archery.
