Hi, folks. A while back (a month, yeesh) I posted that I was starting to load for my SKS and Mosin. The info given here helped a lot, and today I tried my first rifle loads against Remington UMC and WWB 7.62x39 rounds. There's no picts because I don't have a decent camera, and I have minute-of-hedgerow accuracy skills anyway. I was also firing with the gas-port closed so I wouldn't have to chase the brass on a fairly busy firing line.

Well, I fired a bunch of the Winchester through first, just to get the gun warmed up. Most of the shots at 50yds were going 4-6 inches left of center on an IDPA target. This was from a Yugo with my support hand resting on a cheap gun vise/shooting stand that never holds right. I then loaded up the first of my hand loads and fired a head shot. It was nearly dead on. BTW, at 50, the IDPA head sits nicely right behind the front sight on the SKS. I fired the rest with similar accuracy results, then went back to firing the factory as best I could, but was basicly just emptying brass. I am now firmly addicted to reloading.

Welcome to the club, you'll now save money as you spend oodles of cash shooting more. :neener: It's just the way it is.

enjoy

I've been reloading pistol for a year now, but I have never seen the difference between factory and handloads as clearly as this.

Fierco I had the exact same experience with my YUGO sks and my Mosin M44 also you just can't beat hand loaded ammo to improve accuracy in these Mil-Surplus rifles. I have only see that exception in a few cases but it's rear. I did a post on my experience with my SKS http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=304599 on the 150 Gr. load I'm going to be using the Speer bullet from now own.
