I didn't intend to buy any more firearms for a while but then I spotted this really nice M1842 martial pistol made by H. Aston with a lock and barrel date of 1848 in an auction and put in a maximum pre-bid way under what I expected it to go for--at least $200 to $300 lower than what I've seen others in this condition go for.
I already have one which is a shooter but not nearly as nice as this one. When I went back to check after the auction finished, damn if I didn't win it for exactly the maximum bid I had entered. There were 14 bids entered which meant that somebody stopped just $25 less than my max bid.

I've given up trying to figure out auctions. If I'm ambivalent toward winning as in this case, I always seem to win but if I really want an item I never win. I do try to avoid getting in bidding wars and in most cases just like this one, prefer to pre-bid for an amount that I'm willing to pay. (this includes adding in the scam-like bidder's premium percentage) If I get it, fine, if not then in my estimation, it sold for more than it was worth.

Here are a couple of the auction pictures. This one may be too nice to shoot.

Picked up a Springfield 2020 Waypoint in 6.5 Creedmoor yesterday. Really wanted a 308, but I’ve been dying to get my hands on a Waypoint and when this one showed up relatively close to home, I was quick to trade the previous owner out of it. Probably going to be next week before I get a chance to shoot it.

    A .22 For 2022

A 1938 K22 Outdoorsman, purchased yesterday at the gunshow where my favorite S&W pusher displays his temptations. Left side looks superb. The right sideplate has evidence of some unfortunate history, purely cosmetic, but actually welcomed, otherwise I probably couldn’t have afforded it (north of 1G). The bore is mint and the action, both SA and DA is butter. Hoping I can brag on targets this coming week.

    Nothing yet, but deciding between:
    1. XDM .45
    2. HK .45
    3. S&W M&P .45
    In that order.
1st choice, by a wide margin, would be FN 45 Tactical. I can afford it, but can't justify it.

Bought this Saturday. RIA m200. It is my first revolver and will ride along in my business truck. Nothing pretty but is darn fun to shoot. It was less than half of my Christmas bonus so I still have enough to get the lady something.

I've been debating grabbing one of those. Seems decent for the price, but I've never been able to see one in person.

My new purchase for 2022. Sig p320 compact. It has been on my list for a couple of years but other things always came up to suck away the cash.

keep us updated after you get a bunch of rounds through it. I like these as a basic, no frills budget 38 revolver. I have read a lot of complaints about the internals not holding up due to bad or no heat treating. Hopefully its been rectified but I have not heard if Armscor addressed it or not.

Smith & Wesson 686-4 Powerport, unfired in the box. I wouldn't say I got a deal on it but when you want an odd ball sometimes you have to pay.

You should like it. I have one and it's a great shooter for the money spent.

I should not buy any guns in 2022. What the hell, I am looking for a Blackhawk in .45LC w/ a 4.5" barrel and maybe a Charter BulldogXL 45.

Hello All, New member here, long time shooter but new to forums. I see a lot of great pics with some great looking firearms..

I recently bought a used shotgun a week ago off gunbroker in need of some work. (china knock off of the remington 870)
It's a H&R pardner Pump 12g 18" it was reported as a failure to feed and eject. Got it fixed withing 3 hours of getting it home. Anyone want to know what these little cheapies do in this instance just ask. couldnt pass the deal up, won the auction for $79 and my ffl only charges $20 per order. So I have $125 in it in total.

Hope to save some cash and get a Kimber micro 9 Rapide Black ice (Fingers crossed) :)

    Welcome to The High Road!

Heads up when it comes to talking about our guns: pictures are a must. Doesn't matter if it's a 79$ gun, or a 10k$ one. Show it off. You fixed it you say? An even better reason to show it off.

Ok, Its not a gun I bought persay... But it is for my Kids Daily Carry. Daughters 25, been shooting since she was 12. Got this off ebay as NOS for her bersa Thunder 380 for $38 free ship. It was one of her christmas presents. Just Installed it yesterday tho.
Added the Crimson trace red grip laser sight. Will get it dialed in this weekend. But for a 380,Im impressed with this little bersa.

Auctions are tricky, as most or some of the sellers use a "proxy bidders". I used to do it for a friend on his ebay selling. What it is is a friend that has a dummy account and its used to up the bids of the friends listing. Sometimes it's just one person, sometimes its a few. If the proxy wins the auction the item is just relisted at a later date with a new listing number and stock/shelf - tag/number. It's technically not allowed on most auction sites, but then again there's no real way for the site to track this kind of thing.

best practice is to make a min bid. just to keep getting updates and youfoot in the game sorta speak. then the day it ends watch it like a hawk, making bids only an hour or less before it ends. Also look at the "bid History" this will tell you a lot about the ones bidding.

I purchased this Taurus 856 for my 48th birthday present to me. LGS just got it in and they had a great price on it. Fit and finish are outstanding. Feels good to have a 6 shot snub again.

1858 Remington Navy replica, .36 caliber Pietta. Should arrive Friday. Long story, but I wanted an 1858 that I could use my Kirst .22 lr conversion cylinder in. Adapting them to my Ubertis requires a machine shop--was pleasantly surprised to see a Pietta available at Midway. Pic from Midway:
