    :what:

Anyone have anymore on this or similar stories?

My high school History teacher brought in a WWII German helmet that he found in some abandoned garage when he was a kid. He said he found it next to a crate. When he opened the crate, he found that it contained some type of machine gun (unspecified). Something about this interests me...

Talk about sweating bullets, some CO, 1SG, OIC, NCOIC and Armorer are about to be fragged BIG TIME!

Loss of weps, then failure to report it, HOLY SHEEP DIP doesn't even begin to explain the crap storm about to unfold.

In case anyone can't get to it, article below.

(and what a shame . . . . at least fire a few rounds before turning them in!)

I know of a few guns that were found in rivers and creeks . They were retrieved ,cleaned up and they worked !! But they weren't 'real' guns like an M2 !

Last spring there was an M-16 found under a bridge here in Columbia that came from a local Nuke power station. A guy swimming found it and turned it in.

    M2 just laying there?
One of my first thoughts would be.
Too good to be true! Where is the camera?

It is tough to look subtle with an M2 in your hands.

Hey, they fell out of Santa's sleigh on the way to my house! Boy, that's a temptation. The best I ever found was a 38 SPL round at the bottom of our apartment swimming pool years ago.

A store nearby has a (legal, transferrable) M2 for sale. I believe it was made by RAMO.

Anyone have an extra $22,000 or so? :what:

There was a Sgt or Captain that was busted last year from either Fort Riley or Ft Leavenworth that was stealing and selling machine guns out of the armory and weapons coming back from Iraq...I think he lived down in Lenexa.

I'm curious about these guns....wonder if the Reserves lost them on a weekend training thing...doesn't sound like they were 'stashed' for later retrival...yet...How would you 'casually' not notice a couple M2's falling off a Bradly or something???

Plenty of guns at the bottom of the Chicago River. :D

My grandfather had a hardware store in Bloomington, Indiana. Shortly after WWII a barrel came off the truck from Indianapolis containing Liberators made here but not shipped. They were put up front as a "impulse buy".

I've heard of other Liberators found in Central Indiana, painted and sold as "toy guns." :scrutiny:

I don't know for sure if I could have turned those in. I may have had to keep one. The thing is, if you turn those in they will surely interrogate you onif there were any others. You can buy linked .50cal ammo some places. It would be good on zombies, lol. ;)

    OTOH, I probably can't afford linked .50 :(

A guy in my battalion found an MG-42 while volksmarching in Germany. Story goes that he went off the trail to take a piss, spotted an MG bunker, walked up to it and found a loaded MG-42 on a tripod, with designated lanes of fire marked off and everything.

We had a bunch of those stories floating around in the 1st Infantry Div. I was told that our kaserne was built on top of a labyrinth of tunnels, where the Germans store tanks and munitions during the height of Allied bombings. Rumor has it that when we captured the kaserne, they found everything from Tiger tanks, to small arms and art/gold stashed underground. The tunnels were eventually destroyed, but some were left intact, and I personally saw tunnel entrances that had bars installed, to keep soldiers from treasure-hunting.

Generally once a year I find a wallet with cash (of course everything is returned to the rightful owner) but I've never found a gun yet alone a machine gun. :(
